I am putting in a second floor bathroom. Tie ins for tolet and sink are there but facing wron way. Does anyone have a diagram showing proper way to connect to main drain with vents for sink and shower.

Hey Bob.

I got to figure like we are all figuring,. "stuff" flows down hill. That means that waste and vent fittings should pitch back toward the main drain.

Are you saying that waste/vent fittings are faced wrong way.. but pitched toward the main drain?

What I mean is the toilet inlet is facing outside wall I have to turn it left 45 degrees it has a tee coming of the same connection. Or can I use 90 to connect toilet and what venting do I need I can put in a stich if you tell me how to attach

Maybe this might help. I am putting in a second bathroom on the second floor. How do I go about tieing into the existing main line. Sorry if I confused all as new to me. I have two vent pipes running parallel to the main vent. Do I have to tie into them for second floor or can I have w.c. sink, and shower go directly into main drain. I will have to cut main drain as it faces to outside wall and do not no if you can put 90 degree elbow for w.c. to make turn away from outside wall.

Good morning Bob,

I am putting in a second bathroom on the second floor. How do I go about tieing into the existing main line.

Most bathroom groups are roughed in like this.
Toilet connects to sewer main or the stack vent. Lavatory connects to toilet drain and runs a vent off the top the stubout tee out the roof or revents back into a dry vent in the attic.. The toilet wet vents through the lavatory vent and the tub/shower connects to the lavatory drain and is wet vented by it. This is a normal rough in and is acceptable both by local and state codes and also The Standard Plumbing Code Book in 90 percent of the country. Check your local codes.to make sure you're not in the excluded 10 percent.. The vent off the lavatory may be run out the roof or revented back into a dry vent in the attic or if you're reventing back into a fixtures dry vent you must make your connection at least 6 inches over that fixtures flood rim.

Here are some pictures I took of up stairs bathroom. As you can see water closet faces to right can I make like a banana to fit flange. Second to the left will be sink and shower. Can we make this work or should I cut it all out and start from scratch. Also return vent does not look high enough when sink will be installed think I need 6 inches above top of sink to the vent.

If I'm looking at this correctly the shower is wetvented by the lavatory vent, is that correct? Is that a sanitary tee with a side inlet picking for the shower picking up the toilet? What does "make like a banana" mean?
Do you wish to reverse the fittings? Toilet on the? Lav and shower on the?? Just exactly what do you wish to do down there? Regards, Tom

I need to 45 it to get awau from outside wall and did not no if making it 45 then straight 4 inches and up to undersind of toilit would be OK it would look like a arc (banana shape) then shower and lav sink would tie into left side tee. Adding a 45 on the toilet's acceptable but is that the shower coming into the inlet side of the san tee? What's venting that shower? As it looks to me you're discharging a major fixture ,(your toilet) past a unvented minor one,(your shower) and code sez you can't do that. Talk to me Bob. Tom

Only if you connect the shower to the lavatory drain line before the lav connects to the side inlet of the san tee. Good luck, Tom

So I will tie shower to lav line the to tee. Does vent go after shower tie into lav line between that piont and tie in tee or does it matter. Thanks for all the help.
