Hello,

I would like to move my laundry area to the 2nd floor. I have an existing water connection and drain I like to use. I got a hefty estimate from a plumber and while I am an amateur, I'd like to see how it is done. Our plan included installing a pump/reservior that would eliminate soap/water from backing up into the tub due to the size of the drain vs rate of drainage from the washer. Any help?? So far my experience is limited to changing kitchen faucet which took about 1.5 hours----glad I didn't call the plumber.

If the waste pipe and the water pipe are present then it should not be too big a deal.

Basically, will need to relocate the 2" waste pipe to where you need it to go and then extend the water pipes and, of course, the pump/resevoir you spoke of (there is a bit more involved, of course, but basic overview suggests not too bad).

Then will need to run electric for washing machine and if installing a dryer will need to run a dryer vent to outside wall and the dryer electric up to 2nd floor.

I will also recommend that you install the washing machine in a washing machine pan with a single lever shutof (see pic.), stainless steel hoses, and you may want t o consider the automatic shutoff flood protection shutoffs (see pic.#2) they have for washing machines installed on second floors, in particular... ;) . The sensors go to pan so that if water overflows the water is shutoff automatically.. nice, and only around $150.00

That should get you started... If you really want to do the work yourself... how old is home.. how far you moving shower pipe to get to washer, what kind of pipes, and anything else you think I need to know... OK? We will see what we can do to help... Mark
