First time offence: Theft under $5000
I am a 22 year old female living in Ontario, Canada. I was recently arrested at a local Canadian Tire for stealing two power tools. I never actually left the premises as I was stopped at the door. This is my first offence and I am very scared. I was trying to make money as I do happen to have a drug habit. Does anyone know what my possible punishment will be? Any advice or suggestions are welcome. Thanks.

It doesn't matter if you had left the premise or not.
Do you have any prior record?
You may only have to take some classes and possibly pay a fine.
You 'happen' to have a drug habit... have you considered doing whatever it takes to kick the habit rather than whatever it takes to get the drugs?

I'd voluntarily get myself into a rehab program as quickly as possible to prove that you are attempting to change your lifestyle. After that - there's no handbook on what Judges will do.

(You don't have to leave the premises; all they need is clear intent in most cases.)
