theft under $5000.00 first time offence
I was recently questioned about the disappearance of thousands of dollars and 2500 tshirts being stolen from my former place of employment. I have no knowledge on this matter and highly doubt it even occurred. What I believe is the owner is trying to avoid paying their supplier for product received. This would not be the first time said person has done this. The owner was away for the summer and me and another person were in charge of ordering the product (tshirts) the owner had no inventory control what soever and me knowing what this person was like for lying to suppliers faxed the company and asked them to send me packing slips so I could prove what we got in. I also kept record of every penny that came in and out of the store. The owner was paying us under the table with envelopes of cash so I made sure that I wrote out payroll in this book as well. Unfortuneatly while working there I took two tshirts valued at $27.99 which I openly admitted to the police and offered to return them and pay restitution. My only fear is that the only proof I have about the product is in that book and on the packing slips which the owner could have thrown out. Will the police be able to tell that she is lying? What is going to happen to me being my first time offence? I already suffer from anxiety issues and this is not helping. I am also trying to apply for a visa to the uk. Please help. Should I get a lawyer even though I haven't been charged with anything yet?

The question is why even admit to stealing 2 shirts?

They MAY charge you with more, they MAY not.

The only thing you can do now is sit back and wait.

I know it sucks to wait, but hey, you did steal.

If you are charged, then go to a lawyer.

However, if you are this anxious now, you can always go to a lawyer now to help calm you down by going over all the legal procedures, etc. that may be coming down the road to you.

A friend of mine got arrested for stealing from his employer by fraud transactions over $5000. We live in British Columbia. He is over 18.He has no prior criminal record. He is suffering from depression and not in a good state of mind. Do you know what kind of charges he will face and if he could go to jail?
