    Troubled 18 year old
My 18 yr old daughter has had 7 jobs since she graduated in June 07. She won't keep a job, and one of the rules of the house is she has to keep a job. She steals money from us,she lies to us all the time. Her lying has been going on for years. We have kicked her out. She is staying with friends. We don't know what do do for her?

By not allowing her behavior, and telling her to leave, you have done a very painful, but correct thing.

As long as you allow that behavior, she will never learn to take care of herself. The more you try to HELP in this situation, the more you enable her bad behavior.

Stick with your decision. If she realizes the wrongs of her ways and wishes to come back, set the ground rules, in writing, and stick to them. She may hate you now, but she will love you when she has grown up, and understands what you did FOR her.

Let her know you love her and keep her kicked out, till she learns some lessons, sound like you are doing it all just right,

There's a good chance she's on drugs. The stealing and inconsistency and attitude can all be syptoms of that type of behavior. Talk to her in a non-judgemental way. See if she'll meet you for lunch and try to talk to her about what's going on in her life. Do not judge or talk over her or bring up ancient history - just let her know you want to help her, but don't know what is wrong. She may not tell you anything, but she will know you tried, which does matter in the long run.
