    Brainfreeze.what's the reason for it?
Hey, I'm doing a report for a college writing class in my high school. The idea of my paper is to answer the question, "Why do you get brain freeze from drinking slurpies?" Any opinion, educated guess, or answer is appreciated. Thanks. :)

Cold will cause brain freeze AND slurpees are nothing but water, sugar and chemicals which can't be good for your brain either.

Slurpees and icees are a concoction of colored, flavored sugar water and a blast of carbon dioxide. It is flash-frozen soda pop with a higher sugar-to-water ratio than the liquid stuff in a can. They are liquid and gassy ingredients. There's no crushed ice in the recipe.

The machine continually mixes the sugary, bubbly stuff in a freezer compartment that keeps it fluid and at brain-freeze temps. It doesn't crystallize into slush until it comes out of the tap. To freeze properly, the sugar balance is critical. That's why you won't find diet Slurpees. Sugary drinks will never quench your thirst because it takes a large amount of water to metabolize even a small amount of sugar. Any "refreshing" feeling you get from a cold, sweet drink is just temporary and just in your mouth.
You are probably better off making smoothies.

Brain freeze occurs whenever you something drastically cold in your mouth, when this happens it triggers nerves in the roof of your mouth this tells your brain it needs to quickly warm this coldness up. So blood vessels start to swell, which is why you get that headache!
