    I'm a little worried
I am a mother of one boy who is 2 1/2 I just found out Aug 28th I am pregnant and I'm pretty excited about it. I have had nausea and sore breast, no throwing up yet but I have been super tired also. My period are around every 28 days and pretty normal, I am suppose to be 6 weeks today but my ultrasound said I was just 5 weeks today, I guess that's not a big difference but I have miscarried once before in 2003 before my son and I don't want it to happen again. They saw the sac and it is in the right area but there was no heartbeat yet because I was so early along but what I don't understand is how can I be just 5 weeks if I found out I was pregnant the day my period was due aug 28th then that would mean I wasn't even 4 weeks then right? I'm confused and I really want this baby!! PLEASE PRAY FOR ME AND HELP!

I will definitely pray for you. This is what my Dr. told me when I first found out I was pregnant with my daughter/Kalyn. They go by the last day of your last menstrual cycle. Doesn't make sense, but that is what Dr's tell me. I'd ask your Dr how they can determine how far along you are. Yes, it is still too early to hear the heartbeat. Good Luck!

I didn't find out as soon as you did, when comparing missed periods, but I was very early. At my first u/s I was supposed to be 7 weeks along, but the u/s showed I was only 5. The doc said I probably just ovulated a late, as you may have. Your body may just build up the hormone a bit faster than some of us. I am now 28 weeks 4 days pregnant with a very healthy, big baby boy. Everything has been great for me with my pregnancy and I will pray the same for you. Is your doc planning on doing another u/s in a couple of weeks. Mine did just to make sure everything was good, and that it was late ovulation and not something else. Congrats to you! I'm sure everything will be okay.

Actually they go by the First day of your last menstrual cycle, so you would be considered to be about 6 weeks now(this is called your "gestational age"). Since your actual conception date is typically 2 weeks after the first day of your period, your babies age(called fertilization age, conceptional age or developmental age) is always two weeks behind the gestational age. So if you look at it that way your pregnancy is considered about 6 weeks, but your baby's developemental age is 4 weeks. Does that make sense? If your doctors aren't concerned, you don't be either. Congrats on your pregnancy, and best of luck hun. We are always here for any questions you may have, or if you just want to talk.

Wow thanks guys! I go for another ultrasound actually today with my doctors office but the other place did schedule me for October 2nd to see if things are progressing! Thanks so much though:) I guess I'm just confused about the gestational age and conception age so if I'm 6 weeks from my last menstrual cycle shouldn't there be a heartbeat does the fetal age have to be six weeks to have a heart beat? Hopefully today the doctors office will calm me a little more because the 1st place I went to is kind of like a clinic type place for college students to go and get a free pregnancy test and get a ultrasound if you would like. I worry entirely too much though! lol! Have a great day Ladies! Thanks again

Generally 6 1/2-7 weeks gestational is the time when heartbeat is usually detectable. So hopefully at this next appointment, you should be able to see it. "If the embryo is less than 5mm CRL, it is possible for it to be healthy without showing a heartbeat, though a follow up scan in 5-7 days should show cardiac activity."(Concerns Regarding early Fetal Development : American Pregnancy Association)

Please let us know how things went at the ultrasound, and good luck
