A Man's Provocative Gesture. Or Nervous Reaction?
What does it mean when a guy is sitting down, and he looks at a girl, and waves his legs back and forth, opening and closing them? I have seen several guys do this in my presence. Sometimes they do it slow and suddle, and sometimes it's done rapidly with much force. Lol, I know this probably sounds crazy, but it is so irritating. It always makes me uncomfortable. I know that I can't possibly be the only one who has noticed this. Are they trying to suggest something? Or is it just something that guys do?

It is a nervous habit. You know like people who constantly bounce their legs up and down. Nothing sexual.

If this mean he is nervours, how about a guy stares at a girl every time he sees her and constantly looks at her without saying anything for a whole semester. I mean without saying ANYTHING and no facial expression- I wish he did, so I can tell what he thinks.

He probably likes you. Why don't you ask him out for coffee.

Dating isn't just about finding that one true love. Its about having fun... socializing... not only learning about other people but yourself as well. Try it.

Oh I can't tell if a guys likes me or not by the way and the length and frequency they stare at me... I don't want to be judge people by doing that, if I do so then seems like all of my classmates like me. I never asked a guy out in my life. I am traditioanl, it is just the way I am. I am passive too... ^^: I wish guys tell me what they think about me.

Okay, instead of stealing this thread let us go back and focus on the original question.

It is a nervous reaction. Like the shaking of the legs, or like people who play with their hair.

I also believe it's a nervous habit. My husband does it often--slowly when he's thinking or preoccupied and faster while he eats, reads, talks on the phone. Our younger son has the same habit.

(By "suddle" -- spelled "subtle" by the way -- I'm guessing you mean more slowly?)

Women cross their legs and shake a foot sometimes. Others drum their fingers on a table or their glass, etc.

I did know one guy who did that movement - opening and closing his legs when he was talking to someone he liked and wanted to go out with. She was offended by it, thinking it sexual and she told him so. He was astounded, said he never meant that at all, just nerves.

Now this does not mean that it cannot be sexual, I have known women who have done that and it was definitely sexual. But you are talking about a guy here. I would not disbelieve if a guy did that deliberately, as in a provocative gesture. But I do tend to think it is more a nervous action. If you called him on it, he would stop and no doubt apologize for making you uncomfortable.
