Has anyone ever heard of a "Lube Job" ? I am having my tub removed soon and the faucets, etc will all be upgraded. A friend keeps mentioning that they will need to do "A Lube Job" before they install new faucets.What does this mean exactly? Thank You.

Must be some kind of slang in your area. Would also like to find out what that refers to. It almost looks like your plumber used to be an auto-mechanic as this term is commonly used that trade

Sorry, It's called a "Valve Job". Meaning changing all the plumbing fixtures to new.

A "valve job" is not a common term, but when dealing with a tub to shower conversion it will simply mean that the plumber needs to change the tub and shower valve over to a new shower only valve, right? Here, you should decide on a new shower valve model that you like and be sure that they install that... don't just let them chose any model they like (they will choose a cheaper model and mark it up sky high in most cases). I recommend the SYMMONS or the MOEN shower valves for a good basic shower valve (many different trim choices), and Grohe if you like a fancier system with higher volume (if your water pipes are 3/4" size minimum).

In most cases, the plumber should only need to cut out the old valve and insert and connect the new valve...usually only involves some copper pipe/fittings and sweating/soldering the parts together. If this is an extremely old home, the plumber could opt to rip out old brass threaded pipe and install new copper pipes...this would be a bigger, more expensive and labor intensive job, OK?

Maybe I'm just slow but whether it is a 'lube" job or "valve" the comment still doesn't make sense to me. Why would you have to do anything before installing new faucets.

I think I answered the question as it all refers to a tub to shower conversion. Hopefully, that will end the confusion AND answer help foreverromantic to understand the next step in moving forward on the project!Mark
