Why is my period blood dark and sticky looking?

Hi, I got the stomach flu Tuesday morning and on Tuesday night I got my period (as supposed to). However, I notice that the blood is dark, thick, and sticky looking. This has never happened to me before. Also, I'm on Lo Loestren FE so my period is usually gone by now, but the sticky dark blood is still coming out. Do you think this is happening because I am sick? Is it normal?
