Is this normal for a long time married couple?
My friend's parents are this way, I thought it was weird, but she said it's normal so I thought I would ask:

She lives in the US and her parents lives in Hong Kong. Her dad recently retired and went to the US to visit family and stuff leaving his wife behind because she still works. This is normal yes, but the fact is as I am typing this question he has been here for almost 6 months already... I asked my friend isn't it weird that he doesn't want to leave and go back to HK to see his wife? Doesn't his wife want her husband back because he has been gone for almost half a year? My friend told me this is normal, her parents are old people so they don't need to see each other that much... I don't think this is right. She says her mom is OK because she still has her working life, friends, etc... But still... doesn't she want to see her husband? Does she even miss him? They have been married for 30+ years.
When I talked to my friend I even used my parents as an example. My parents have been married to each other for as long as hers and the most they have ever been away from each other was like 5 days. I can understand not seeing each other for like a week, heck, even a month but 6 months is a little much right?

It is normal for some cultures. My Arab parents lived apart for 10 years while we were young so my siblings and I could attend private school in the ME while my father worked in US. He'd visit us once a year during the summer. It seemed normal to us. And, it is not done as much by young couples, but it is normal. And, guess what? They are still together.

But the thing is this is not done because of a job or anything like that, the dad is basically over here vacationing and stuff
