    Fingerprinting vs. public record
I was arrested 11 years ago for domestic violence. The other person did not press charges and when I run a public record on myself there are no records of it. Now, through my employer I am going to manage a program where they had me fingerprinted. Is this going to show up? I read somewhere that if you have been fingerprinted--you have a record and it will be there. I could lose my job. Please advise. Thanks

You heard wrong, millions of people are fingerprinted, finger printing is a form of ID, they put your print on record to be compared if your prints are ran again.

What comes back from finger print is any and every name you have ever used when finger printed. 1000's of criminals give fake names when arrested often, so all of their allias are recorded for cross reference.

This also confirms exactly who you are, since of course there could be dozens or 100's of people with your name, even a few with you name and birthdate if you have a common name.

So once a finger print record is done, they run a criminal records check on the names and ID that comes back from fingerprints. Remember people are fingerprinted for teaching jobs, to work for the scouts, to even work for my karate school. If you get a gun permit, for all of those fingerprints are put into file.

Now the only issue is where will they do their records search, there is the official system though the police, but there are many private search firms also.

But an arrest does not mean anything, it is a conviction.

** side note the other person does not "press charges" they merely report the crime, the DA makes the choice to press or not to press charges, regardless of what the victim says or wants
