Water in a basement window well
I live in Maine and when we have a hard rain (many inches at a time) or hard rain in the Spring when there is a large amount of snow/ice accumulated on the roof, my window wells fill up with water from the ground. I had a deck removed last summer (Keep in mind that this deck covered these window wells and I was still having a water filling problem) and had new window wells, windows and new drainage (sand and stone) put in. We sloped the stone (landscaping) away from the house and removed some old cement stairs that were in the corner. We had 7 inches of rain last month in over 12 hours and just one of the window wells (closest to the corner of the house where the stairs used to be) filled with water. The other two were fine (which used to be a problem! Yeah!) I used a portable sum pump to remove the water in this well, which prevented much of the water from seeping into the basement, however, I want a solution to the problem. The gutters were working properly and diverting the water away from this area. The water was seeping up from the bottom, not going into the wells from above.
