Summer love
This girl I met a while ago, who liked me, said we should just remain good friends. She told me this 2 weeks before school gets out for the summer. We're both in our junior year, so it's not like it's over. She told me that she met someone else, and our love kind of faded. We still talk, and are good friends. We still sort of, kind of flirt. I want her back, because I've never felt this way about a girl before.
I figured I would wait until next year, and let her do her thing over the summer with whomever. Her relationships don't last too long, but I want to change that. I'll talk to her a bit over summer, and then really show her what I'm made of our senior year.
She's the class president and I'm the cross country team captain. They say that absence makes the heart fonder? Am I doing the right thing by giving her time to herself? I may have killed it by spending too much time with her in the first place. I think that playing hard to get will make her come back, like if I don't seem like I'm interested or centered around her.
Any comments? Help? Tips?
I also started a band with her best friend, I'm the drummer, she's the singer. If that's to any correlation.

Just give her time to herself and remain casual friends. DO NOT focus all your attention on her because she might think that you are needy and desperate, so go out and have fun, meet other girls and hang out with them.
DO NOT put all your eggs into one basket because she said "we should just remain good friends". This usually a kind way of saying I don't want a relationship with you because she backed it up with, "she told me that she met someone else".
Do you know for certain that she has met someone else?
It is absolutely true that absence makes the heart grow fonder, but that is only applicable if she has genuine feelings for you. I say this because it WILL hurt you if your feelings for her get stronger and it turns out she doesn't have feelings for you in that way.
I don't want you to feel like you have no hope because I am only going on what you have written.
TIPS:
1)Don't make her your only option.
2)Go out and meet other girls and just have fun! PARTY! :)
3)Let her contact you, or if you bump into her, smile, be happy and keep any conversation brief.
Good luck and all the best :)

Didn't work out the first time, what makes you think it will a second. Forget about her, you're still young, go find someone else, someone better. Just because you haven't felt this way about someone before doesn't mean it's the last, or the best. You will find someone you have a stronger fire for, and who will share that same fire with you.
"Don't make someone a priority in your life, if you're only and option in theirs"
Move on bud, trust me, there's bigger fish out there.

She met someone else, I have his name.
I'm pretty sure she still has feelings for me, they can't just disappear that quickly. We never officially went out, but she bumped me off.
I just need to try to re-ignite that fire that we had in the first place.

You never had a fire, you had a spark. You tried to light a fire with that spark the first time, what makes you think it's going to be any different. Let her go, she's not worth wasting your time, because you have no idea if she's even the right one for you. You could waste all this time to go out for 5 weeks and break it off. Not saying you will, but it could happen, and then you would have wasted all this time for nothing. You need to ignore your feelings and start thinking rationally.
