Where to I need to go to gain custody of my grandson
My grandson is 1 1/2 years old and living with his father and mother. My son is the father of this child but is not working and is using drugs. The mother shows no attention to this child and leaves him alone downstairs by himself regularly. The grandmother ( the mothers mom) is also living in the home and is a cronic meth user and uses in the house while my grandson is present. I love my son but I feel he is not caring for the child as he should. My daughter sees them on a daily basis just to make sure my grandson is OK. She is the one who has informed me of the living situation at the home. There is constant fighting and the grandmother has hit her daughter with my grandson in her arms. The are on state aid and living in HUD housing. My heart aches everyday for the way my grandson is living. He deserves better. I hate to do this to my son but my grandson deserves better. What do I need to do to gain custody of my grandson. I am only 48 years old and would have no trouble caring for him.

    Please help men... desperate

You go to the local family services agency and report the situation to them.and let them know you are willing to foster your grandson.

Or you get your son and the mother to agree to give you guardianship.

My son would never give up his son willingly. And to the mother my grandson is a paycheck for her so she won't give him up either. My daughter has begged me to take him from them due to her seeing everything and being so worried about her nephew... also what happens if my son finds out I went to family services and bolts... then I will never see my grandson again... do they keep that a secret?

Family Services is not going to just rush in a take the child on your say-so. They will do an investigation. Once they start, your son will know the danger he is in. They may not know it was you that started the investigation, though.

I understand that. Please don't get me wrong my son is not a bad person his life has just gone down the wrong road. He is already fearful of having his son taken from him and he is very afraid but is doing nothing to change the situation for himself of his son. He needs to get his own life straight before he can be a good parent. I know he will hate me if I take my grandson from him but I am willing to deal with that just to make sure my grandson is safe. Do I need to go to family services in the county where he resides?
