Has his sperm count been checked? Turned out I couldn't conceive because my husband took hot baths and wore tight underwear and pants.

    Hi dianainc76... welcome to AMHD,

With irregular periods, it is likely that you are not ovulating each cycle, so that would naturally decrease the opportunities to become pregnant. Have your cycles always been irregular? Have you had the chance to discuss it with your gyn? Some women do naturally have irregular cycles, but sometimes it can be due to hormonal concerns that can be corrected.

For irregular cycles, a general guide for determining a range within which you are most likely to be ovulating would be to count back 18 days from your shortest cycle and 11 days back from your longest. This is just a guide, however, similar to the idea of women ovulating 14 days after the start of their period. While some women will, many others will not follow this pattern. The counting of days will give you a starting place however.

Signs your body may be preparing for ovulation would be a change in cervical mucus to more fluid and clear. Some women will notice some discomfort near one ovary or the other during ovulation. Some women experience an increase in sexual desire close to ovulation.

You could try ovulation predictor kits, but it would be a bit costly since you would need several and need to test daily for some time. Temping and charting work well for some women, but again with irregular cycles it will take a bit of time to determine a pattern.

If you haven't already discussed your trying to become pregnant with your gyn, that might be a good place to start.

Fertility testing does sometimes start after a year of no success, but your doctor may want to address the irregular cycles first.

Well he has never gotten checked out but I'm really not sure if its him or not about a year and half ago he used to be a really heavy drinker but since then he hasn't drink and I know it can kill your sperm count but is the damage ireversable? And I just need advice on how to track when I'm ovulating with irregular periods and if my ovulation days can even be tracked and if all else fells we will have to go get checked I guess but until then what's your advice what do you think I should do because of right now I could really use some advice from someone with more knowledge about these kinds of things please

    Are you tracking your BBT?

That's probably the best place to start--along with a trip to your OB/Gyn
