Honda civic 1996 automatic, intermittent start problem
Hey! So I have a '96 civc, automatic, and it will only start intermittently. When it actually cranks, it will start up perfect, the problem is that it will not crank every time. I can hear the fuel pump kicking in, and when I give it the final turn of the key, nothing more happens apart from the fuel pump whirring. There is no loud click coming from the starter to indicate the starter is getting power but not enough, which would lead me to charge the battery. The starter is just not clicking at all.
I'm sure the battery is fine as I have driven it round for an hour or so, then pulled into the petrol station for fuel, then when I tried to restart the engine there was no life. All the engine lights come on fine, and the engine light turns off after a second or two of the ecu check. This has happened to me twice whilst actually being out and about. And each time, I just left it for a few minutes and had a cig, then I tried again and it worked.
It started fine this morning, then turned it off and tried to restart and it would not crank. I have disconnected the battery for 10mins and I have had a look at the 80amp batt fuse which appears to be OK, but I have no testers!

    Any ideas anyone?

Remove and fully charge (or replace) the battery. Starter motors require much more amperage than lights. If the problem persists, clean the battery terminals and cable connections, including those to the starter motor. Should the problem still persist, focus on the starter motor. Honda starter motors, however, are very reliable.
