How do I get the father of my child's parental rights taken?
I had my son when I was 18. His father and I broke up 3 months after I had my son (various reasons including meth and other drug abuse). He hasn't seen my son since he was 1 yr old, not been in contact with us, and does not help support my son in any way. I am now 2 yrs married to a man in the Army who's willing to "adopt" my son. I'm wondering if anyone has advice on how I go about getting his rights taken, because this is preventing us from moving to various places my husband could get stationed, and he's not involved what-so-ever. I have NUMEROUS documents, pictures, supporting the fact that he uses drugs. My son was born in Arizona, and we're now in Kentucky. I've been to the JAG office, and they say take it to Arizona court, I was in Arizona, and they say talk to Kentucky. Any advice? Please and thank you very much.

Best advice is to get a lawyer.

You have to PROVE the father is unfit in order to terminate his rights involuntarily.

Will he terminate voluntarily? Are you collecting child support? The reason for the child support question is that generally if an uninvolved parent knows they can get out of support by relinquishing, they will do so.

Have you been to court at all to establish custody and child support?
