I'm seeking employment with a company that works with the US Postal Service. Part of the employment requirements is a UPSP clearance that includes a FBI fingerprint check.

Now, I have a DUI conviction from over 10 years ago that was expunged (over 10 years ago). I've confirmed with the issuing court that my record no longer exists, and have received a 'no record' report from the National Driver's Registry.

I currently hold a TS-SSBI that was renewed last year. During every investigation for this clearance I admitted to the DUI.

For the upcoming employment, do I need to be concerned that the US Postal Service clearance (which requires a FBI fingerprint check) will return my previous conviction to my employer, or as you've mentioned in previous posts, is the purpose of this particular check only to prove my identity? No where on the employment paperwork is a criminal background check mentioned.

I'm not FrChuck but an expunged charge will show on an FBI fingerprint/background check. To the best of my knowledge the USPS does a full background check.

I'm not the Padre either, but I have an opinion. First off, I believe the purpose of a background check is to find out about CRIMINAL activity - not to prove your identity.. I don't care what is or isn't on the paperwork..

Second, while I agree with Judy that the record is STILL noted by the FBI, an expunged offense is to be used only to enhance the sentence of a secondary offense and for security purposes...

So it really depends on the purpose of the background check... If it's strictly employment, I don't think your offense will be revealed.. But, if you're going to be given some sort of security clearance, it's going to show.
