    Clogged well pump screen
A professional has given me an estimate to fix a clogged well pump screen for $1000  It can't be that hard to do. Can someone tell me how to do this myself? He was talking about putting acid in the well for 24 hours. What exactly does that do, and is it a necessary step towards cleaning a clogged well pump screen?

I'm not a pump man, That's a separate trade in my area. However I've been exposed to them. If you mean the screen on a well point at the bottoim of the well I've heard that unhooking the suction line and \hooking it back up to a pressure source, air or water, will blow the screen clear. Putting acid in the well may work on minerals, such as lime or calcium carbonate to desolve it, but in my area we have sand that fouls the well points and acid won't work on sand. And if all he's going to do is pour acid down your well and not pull and replace the well point $1000.00 sounds excessive. Perhaps one of the other experts can jump in that are more knowledgeable then me. Regards, Tom
