My husband tried to plunge a backed up toilet last night and was unsuccessful. Lovely me, I get the challenge to plunge it today. :mad: I've tried for an hour to aggressively plunge it, but to no avail. Upon plunging, the water does not go down. When I flush it, the water acts as though it's going down but then backs up into the bowl. I have to skim out the water into the tub to start all over. (All holes in the basin are clear by the way). My question is if I were to buy a snake, would that help or should I call a plumber in to do the job. It seems that the clog might be well beyond the bend. :confused: Thank you.

This may sound like a strange question, but do you have young children? I have had to pull toilets in order to remove toys flushed down toilets.

If a plunger was going to clear it, it probably would have within a few minutes. A plunger is great if it is just a clog in the bend within the bowl.

There is a specific snake that you can buy to clear a toilet. I don't know if I would go out and purchase one just for this. Also the snake that I am talking about does not go that far past the floor.

Have you checked below the toilet (if possible, like in a basement) to see if there is a cleanout close to where the toilet sits? You can slowly back out the cap and see if the blockage is beyond that point. If the blockage is in the 3 or 4 in line, I would recommend calling a plumber.
