    Yes... the owner of the car is legally and financially responsible PARTICULARLY when they allow an unlicensed driver to use it. And worse... might increase your liability depending on the terms of your insurance policy.

    Well, I'm somewhat going to disagree with my friend, Smoothy.

    Responsible/liable for what? The fact that a driver is unlicensed does NOT mean that the driver is responsible for an accident.

    Many people don't know the difference between "responsible" and "liable."

    What are the circumstances?

    I was using them interchangibly... but yes... they can mean very different things, particularly in court. Liable... would have been a much better choice of word for me to have used. I oversimplified it...

    I think you are both right. However, like Judy said, it would depend on the circumstances. There are A lot of blanks to fill in here. Was there an accident? Was he pulled over and issued citations? Or was there even an incident at all? Is this all hypothetical?

    You are right, I'm only trying to make a point that there is a lot of info missing here.

    Im not saying they would be "liable" for any of his citations by any means.
