Well.. I've been with him for about 11 months now.. and his birthday is coming up. He really likes to skateboard.. but I don't really know enough about skateboards to buy him one.. sooo.. what else would be good to get him?

Bake him an assortment of cookies (chocolate chip, peanut butter, almond crescent, sugar cookies, ginger cookies, etc.) or brownies (chocolate, chocolate with cream cheese swirl, turtle brownies, blond brownies, etc.). He'll brag to his grandchildren about you some day.

go to a skate shop and ask the guys there to recommend. If u hang out with him or his pals enough, u will be able to notice what brands he is into. Try to get those brands for him. Notice what colour he likes. Or what design he normally wears (e.g. skull/guitar/peace sign). If you are afraid u wouldn't be able to get the right board to his liking, maybe u could blindfold him and bring him to the shop and let him choose for himself!

good luck! Just get the item, put it in a bag or wrap it up in a plain wrapping with a short note. That would be sufficient. Guys don't appreciate the little details we girls put into the gift (e.g. ribbons and lengthy birthday poems) so don't bother about those! :)
