I am building a new bathroom for my master bedroom and want to include the following: A whirlpool, double sink, shower, and a toilet. I want to tie this into the vent/main drain pipe 11 feet away that my other bathroom goes into. Can I have the new toilet drain as my main drain from new bathroom and drain the whirlpool, shower and sinks into it as it goes to the main exsisting drain? I have access to the attic where I can tie other vents into the main vent. I figure the shower can wye drain into the toilet drain and the whirlpool and sink drains wye connect and then wye connect into the toilet drain also on their way to the main drain. Does this make sense and can it be done?

Just make sure your toilet is the upstream drain compared to the other fixtures on this branch

Hi,

Yes you may tie in to your existing bathroom 11' away. Just make sure you don't tie into soil pipe which the pipe from toilet flange downstream receiving the discharge from toilet. Your minimum building drain pipe size for the new bath is 3". Then you could branch off to your whirlpool and shower with a minimum 2" pipe.

Thank you for responding. Yes toilet is first on the run then shower and then whilpool and sink. Do I need to put in vents at the whirlpool and sink and shower and tie those into the main vent? The toilet has a vent in the wall going to main vent.

Do I need to add extra venting to the shower and sink and whirlpool drains. I tried to upload a drawing but it did not show up. Maybe I could email it?

Hi Thampton...

All fixtures need a vent. If wet venting is allowed in your area you maybe able to use one vent to vent many fixtures, but if not, you'll need to install a vent to each fixture.

All sinks must have a vent. If wet venting is allowed in your area then you can use a sink vent as a wet vent for other fixtures, but the drain/vent for the sink must be increased to 2" until the vent connects into a 2" or larger vent elsewhere in the plumbing system.

Click on these "buttons"... picture(s)should post:

First, type something into the answer box (minimum character requirement) and then click... Go Advanced

Then click... Manage Attachments (brings up new window)

In new window click... Browse (then picture window pops up and you double click your picture (picture window disappears after that)

Next, back at the Browse window click browse to get more pictures or click... Upload to upload your pic. To the site (After upload, close this window)

Finally, click the Save changes button to finish your post.

Let me know how you make out...

I do not see any of that even when I redo the question and upload. It just sits there, window does not close, I have to close it. Am I not patient enough? Can I upload after asking a posted question?

So do I need 2 drains or just the one coming from the new bath? A 3 inch from toilet and a 2 inch from the others tying into the 3 inch going to the main? Or a 3 inch from toilet and a 2 inch from the others going to the main?

Hi, that would be one 2" drain coming of the 3" horizontal drain for toilet then from that point on u could branch off that. 2" is all u need for both shower and tub and a lav or 2 lavs.

Yes looks like what I was thinking of. I was putting a vent at the toilet and going up with that and tying it into the main vent. I see no added vent for shower. I thought they all needed a vent? I see "wet vent" okay. Thank you
