System seems unable to keep house cool. Pressures 220/63. Trane XE1000 R22.
The air inside is cool, but not cold. I know that the compressor is working, condenser fan is OK and the evap coils are OK. The register air feels cool, but not cold. I am not an a/c person, but have enough knowledge to be considered a little dangerous. I checked the pressures and found the high side to be around 220 to 260 and the suction side to be around 63. With outside ambients in the mid to high 90s, it is normal for my unit to only cool the house down to the high 70s? My unit is a 2 ton and my house is small at around 1200 sq ft. Any suggestions before I call a real professional?

Sounds like it's a little low on refrigerant,, is the suction line sweating at all?

Yes, I see a little sweat on the suction line when I move the tubing cover/insulation. I put the guages on again. The low side is 63 and the high side is about 260. The heat index outside is about 107 today.

I recently had my a/c quit working. Called out a Handy man who told me it was just fuses and he replaced them. 3 weeks later they blow again. I go out to the box to pull the fuses... pull them - and they are different sizes. One is 35Amp and one is 50Amp. Is this normal? I don't know what...

Trane XE1000 Fan Knocking at stop [ 1 Answers ]

My 1995/6 Trane XE 1000 5-ton unit's fan knocks when it turns off. It runs fine, but am concerned that something is potentially wrong. I cleaned the unit today and looked at the fan and it didn't seem loose or that the bearings were shot. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Mark San Antonio
