88 honda civic lx code 8
I have a 1988 honda civic automatic around 117000 miles. Around a month ago the engine light starterd coming on but only at around 65-70mph. At the time it comes on the car seems to bogg down like if I'm dropping into a lower gear if I let off the gas it seems to catch again and if a play with it off then on the gas the light won't come on(engine light).it was flashing a 16 code.just the other day the light came on and stayed on and yesterday morning it seemed to have a hard start longer cranking before it kicked over.and after work it didn't want to start.now I have a code 8 and 16 any suggestions? Thanks for any help you can give... keep up the good work...

Code 8: TDC--Top Dead Center Sensor. To fix this problem, you'll need to replace the distributor housing. I recommend genuine Honda only. To keep the cost down, you may want to check your local salvage yard.

Code 16: Fuel Injectors. This problem may clear up, when the distributor housing is replaced.

Afterwards, reset the ECM by disconnecting the negative battery cable for 10 seconds.

Thanks for responding, does this have anything to do with my car bogging down at around 3000 rpm or 65-70mph? Like I said when I'm on the freeway and getting close to the rpm or speed the car kicks up to 3500 rpm and when I let off the gas it drop's back down to 3000 rpm. If I stay on it the light would come on and stay on until I turn off the car.when the light is on it would still shift all gears in town like normal but at the higher rpms its like its in low gear with high rev.now the light is on and won't turn off and the car won't start.

Absolutely. You need to replace the distributor housing. There's no way to repair a bad TDC Sensor.

Throwing a Code 8 is the check. You can't see inside and there's not test I'm aware of. Honestly, you are lucky your distributor has lasted this long. They frequently go between 50,000 to 90,000 miles.
