I have a rheem a/c and heat pump. The a/c works fine, but when I turn on the heat, the outside unit comes on for approximately 2 minutes and then turns off never reaching the desired temp. The inside fan does come on and doen't turn off when the outside unit does. I can run the emergency heat.

Lucky for you the emergency heat is working since under the circumstances you have described the services of a local HVAC company might be desired and I am sure they are very busy right now. Is the thermostat is set correctly there is little more than I can advise you on since you will need tools including meters and pressure gauges to properly diagnosis the outside unit problem.

I wish it was something simple but the way you described the problem it is in the outside unit and needs professional on site service.
