    Chandelier wiring
I have a chandelier that was previously hooked up that needs to be put back before I move. The chandelier has 2 identical brown wires(one has writing) and a bare thin wire. The ceiling a has a red power wire, 2 black wires, 2 white wires, and 1 bare thick metal wire. All the wires are confusing and of course I removed it over a year ago. Any help would be appreciated!

From the fixture one wire has ribs along it's length, the other is smooth.

The ribbed one is your neutral, that goes to the white ceiling wires.

The other is the hot. We can only assume that the red is switched in the ceiling box so try connecting to that one first.

Re-wiring chandelier [ 1 Answers ]

I am re-wiring an eight light chandelier that was wired in a series. I would like a formula to figure the maximum wattage for a given wire, or the wire size required to obtain a certain maximum wattage. Would the formula also work if the chandelier was not wired in series?
