My dog keep chewing his way out of his pen.
So, recently our mixed breed (not quite sure what he's mixed with) dog Zuki, has began literately chewing his way through the fence that surrounds our yard. Apparently he figured out that if he chews out a section of the wire it makes a gap just big enough he can squeeze through.
By doing this he's began to upset the neighbors (who have actually threatened to shot him ) and I'm really beginning to be at my wits end trying to keep him contained. Seriously I've been walking around the yard daily to repair a new hole he's made himself.
I'd rather not have to resort to chaining him up, but also don't want to have to find him a new home since other than this he's a really well behaved dog and my younger siblings adore him. So anyone have any idea how to go about breaking this awful habit he's developed (or why he's started doing this in the first place).

In a small sprayer mix 50-50 water to tabasco sauce or hot pepper sauce. Spray it pretty good where you dog chews before he goes out. It won't take long for him to figure it out. I used this with my dog and my neighbors dog, it worked both times. It also keeps the bugs away. You can also try muzzling but for some reason in my eyes I see muzzling to be cruel in a way :P

You can possibly stop him by putting his feces next to fence. Dogs do not want to dig in their own waste. That worked for one of my dogs.

You can get a run and put him on it. That way he is stillsort of chained but has freedom to run too

There are other repellant sprays that don't use capsicum. The sour apple flavors seem to work quite well, and may last longer out of doors than homemade.

Okay thanks all, I'll try out a few suggestions, or I suppose I could resort to just lining the bottom of his pen with plywood (which is what we've been "patching" his holes with... Oh, and I was meaning to do this earlier, but perhaps some of you guys could give me ideas on what he could be mixed with... Here's a picture of him (maybe this'll work):

This may sound mean but have you thought about planting some prickly plants where he is chewing his way out?
Nothing nasty like cactus but something that he would get a bit of a sting out of if he tried to go near the fence.
Even making something like a double fence or using flat metal or wood that he can't grab onto to chew would work.
Just a thought if the bitter sprays don't work :)
