New faucet does not drain and leaks!
    Hello,
I'm a new home owner and I'm tackling my first plumbing job and it's totally driving me nuts. I'm not extremely familiar with plumbing terminology so please bear with me :-). So here is the story:

We've removed the old faucet and trying to put a new one in. When I had the old faucet in the water was draining perfectly, but with the new one the water does not drain and there is water leaking from the joints.

As far as I know here is what we have (top to bottom) Sink drain piece --> pvc bolt thing tightening the drain to the bottom of the sink --> a straight pvc pipe to connect from the drain pipe (pvc also btw) to the P-joint. P-joint to the drain pipe (copper I think). Between the connections there are the bolt-like pvc parts going up a thread and there is a plastic type material which I believe is called the slip joint washer. The tapered end is facing down. I tighten it pretty good with a plumbing wrench, but does not work. Do I need some type of epoxy to make it water tight for the water to drain properly? Am I missing some step?

All right, so last night I found where the leak was coming from. There's a small crack where the sink and the tail piece connects and the rubber gasket doesn't cover all the way. Just as a temporary measure I put silicone on the gap. I put everything together and still the water is not draining!
It was draining perfectly before I took out the old faucet. Am I doing something totally wrong??

By the way, I cannot get the drain side (closer to the wall where the waste pipe is) to come off. I believe it may be epoxied or something. I've taken a pipe wrench to loosen it but it is totally stuck. What should my next plan of attack be?

The darn thing will not drain at all, and it was draining perfectly before I replaced the faucet. Can anyone help me??
