    Heat pump cycles
I have a 3 year old York heat pump and a 8 year old Goodman Furnace and a Honeywell Pro Th3110d digital thermostat. The problem is that the heat pump wants to run all the time after it cycles 4 or 5 times. Each time it cycles the air temps seem to get lower. If when it wants to run all the time I put it in Em heat for about 3 cycles then change back to normal heat it will run fine for about 4 or 5 cycles then it wants to run all the time again, doesn't make any difference what the outside temp is it will do this a 40degrees. A friend and I checked the register temps a week ago and got 95 when it first starts then in 5 minutes it will drop to 85 in another 5 it will drop below 80. I have had 2 Techs tell me there is nothing wrong with the unit but they are not here long enough to see how it works try to tell them and they say that is normal. I have had times when it have even lowered the temp in the house by 1 or 2 degrees. Anyone got any ideas??

    Thanks

It could be a mix of things. The only true way to find it is to be there when it happens. It is a good possibility that the defrost circuit in the outside unit needs some attention.

That sound like a good place to check only what would that have to do with it, the thing seems to defrost every 45 minutes. For 1.5 minutes. I was thinking that the reverser value was not opening up all the way or something like that but that was just a thought. This has done the same even with the old thermostat, so that would count the tstat out you would think.

If you had a bad reversing valve the heat pump would not heat at all. The hot gas would bypass and go right back to the compressor. Your reversing valve will energize in the cooling mode and deenergize in the heating mode. Check to see if your heat pump statrts to frost up on the smaller refrigerant line soon after it starts to run. You may have a refrigerant restriction at the metering device on the heatpump.

The unit has now been running for about 45mins. And there is hardly any heat coming from the pump to the coils when you touch the pipe at the pump it is Luke warm at best the same is true just before it goes into the coil. I don't have anything to check temps with right now my buddy does but he isn't home.
