Install Vessel sink and drain with overflow
I have a china vessel sink with overflow sitting on a granite top. The drain fits through the hole but if I use the cone gasket between the sink and the granite top, the sink will be elevated about 1/4 inch and will not sit flat.
If I install the silicone cone gasket under the granite then won't the water leak between the sink and the granite if the water should overflow? Even with silicone sealer around the bottom of the sink, the water would sit in and around the granite. Am I missing a more flat type gasket that should be betweent the sink and counter top?
Of course the sink and drain did not come with instructions. Parts inlcude the pop up drain with overflow, gasket for the top sink hole, a cone type silicone gasket which I assume was meant ot go over the pipe and to seal the bottom of the sink so the overflow water will not drain down.
Then there is another flat glasket and the metal nut, which secures the pipe and all to the sink or sink and granite top. Maybe I am making this to hard and I am usually pretty good about figuring out things... Am I making this more difficult or do I need to actually have someone cut the hole in the granite large enough for r the @"nut and silicone gasket to fit directly to the sink? Otherwise the 2"silicone cone gasket, flat gasket and nut only fit on the bottom side of the granite? I can hook up a regular sink but this one has me stumped. Most of the questions deal with vessel sinks without overflows. Thanks for any help

Usually, vessel sinks don't have overflow. It would be helpful if you could post a photo of it...

Some vessel sinks come with fat round ring that you install over the drain and between vessel sink and counter. In this case, sink will be elevated about 1/4" inch.

If you want the sink to sit flush with the granite than you have to drill bigger hole - or, perhaps, bevel the hole in the counter so it accepts the rubber washer and nut.

Are you using a drain made for the vessel sink? Expensive but necessary.

Why is there no answer to this?>! I am having the same issue. The drain came with the sink... in the same box. There are 2 gaskets: one for in the sink, under the flange; the other for under the sink. The hole in the granite is only big enough for the drain, not the big bolt that compresses the other gasket. Any water (not just overflow) sits in the hole in the granite. What a dumb design. I suppose the hole should have been bigger but I'm not willing to tear it all back out to take it back to the granite guy.

My plan is to apply a lot of silicone in the hole

and complaining that old posts won' t solve your particular problem won't get you answered. Since all complaints are different we need you to list your complaint in detail.
What's the brand name of your sink? Did they furnish a grid or a flip-top vessel sink drain? Are you the installer? Did it require a new counter top? How thick is the counter top? Top? Can you take a picture of the drain assembly? Give us all the details that you can. Back to you, Tom
