I have been with a certain gentleman for over 2 years, and my Mother, Father and Step-Dad dislike him for a number of reasons, he wasn't always that great to me, but he never did anything life threatening or hurtful! But after that falling out, which was in June and him and I did not speak for a while we have worked out some kinks and he is back with me, much to my happiness and much to my parents dismay. The first time they have been around him was Sunday and then on Tuesday my Step-Dad came to me and gave me his opinion on how uncomfortable he was around my boyfriend and how much it bothers him that we are together! I can somewhat see where they are coming from but its not fair to make me have to pick between my family and him. I might not ever be able to spend another holiday with all of them! The worst part is that if any of my parents where to be with someone their family did not agree with they would not even bat an eye... trust me it has happened! My Mother is probably the worst, she says things like " Well, its to bad if you have kids with him and I have to hate my grandchildren" I know she sounds like a child herself! What happened to the parents only wanting to see their children happy?

What are their reasons for disliking him? Has your boyfriend acted maturely to them? And also, perhaps have him have a sit down with each of your parents and talk about what is troubling their minds. Parents are an amazing judge of character and perhaps they see something that your love is blinded by

They dislike him because he lost his job---not fired, didn't quit, the business simply went under--- he is a network engineer and in our area there is not a lot of demand for his field, therefore he had quite a struggle finding another job, and it got to the point that I had to rent out my house because the money just wasn't there... which turned out to be the BEST THING EVER! But they still hate him for that... like eveything was his fault?? I consider my dog a great judge of character because he has been right before (Haha) and he loves my boyfriend! They have offerred to talk to him but I am terrified on how that is going to turn out because as you can see my mother likes to personally attack people and go for that extra sting below the belt? I guess the question is how do I handle the situation?

I would propose a sit down, it will show your parents that he loves and cares for you and wants to make them work again

Step back, and let them talk, and work it out among themselves. If they can't, then live your life, and keep them apart. Just don't let him be the topic of conversation when your around. If they can't respect that around you, and your kids, cut the contact.
