Wiring a ceiling fan to three way swich
We have a ceiling fan with a light in our family room and we have three switches that control the light and one that controls the fan. We can get the light to work, but not the ceiling fan. There are black and white wires. Please help us get the fan to work. Thanks

If I understand correctly you have some 3-way switches that control the light and a regular switch that controls the fan. One of the 3-way switches and the regular switch would be in a 2 gang box. Are you just replacing the fan or is this a new installation. You need to give us more installation. Describe the wires in the box where the switches are and the wires in the ceiling box at the fan. That is, how many cables and what color are the wire in each cable, how are they connected.

Note: A wire is a wire, a cable is two or more wires in an outer covering called a sheathing.

You do not provide enough info but here are some things to try. Pull the chain that controls the fan. Even if the switch is working properly of the pull chain on the fan is in the off position the fan will not run. Check the voltage at the fan and ensure that the leads in the fan that are marked fan are wired to the switch that controls the fan. If you do not have power at the fan then you may have a bad switch. Toggle switches go bad fairly often. You would be amazed at how often I find a bad switch. Especially in newer homes where the contractor used the .19 cent switches they sale at Home Depot and Lowe's!!

Did you just install the fan, or was it previously installed, and stopped working?
