I had a small leak and tried to fix it myself, first replacing O-rings, then taking the insides of the faucet to a hardware store to find a replacement. This is a Delta faucet with two handles, one for hot and one for cold. After being assured that the replacement part was the correct one, I took it home and installed it. When I finished I turned the water back on from underneath the sink, and now the water won't turn off (except by using the shutoff valve under the sink). The faucet worked fine yesterday, except for the small leak, so I don't think the problem could be corrosion. I tried putting back in the old piece I had before buying the replacement, and the water still will not shut off using the handle.:eek: Help, please! I have company coming tomorrow!

Is this the sink faucet that you have? The spout might be different but the innards are the same.lTom

Try this. Remove the stem one more time. Inspect the washer to insure that the washer has not been damaged. Hold the bonnet nut and turn the stem to the open position and reinstall.

Thanks, guys. The faucet pictured is a kitchen one, mine is in a bathroom. On the Delta website they call it a "two handle mini-widespread" faucet. I haven't been able to find any answers there to my problem. And I don't think there are washers - there are O-rings, but no washers. Any other ideas?

There is a rubber seat that is in the hole where you took out the stem, turn the water off and take out the stem and look down into the hole, there should be a rubber cup type washer that fits into the brass hole. When the handle turns it either covers this cup washer with a piece of stainless or a plastic, as you turn the handle it either uncovers the hole or covers it. There is also a stainless steel spring under the rubber cup washer.
Go to a plumbing shop they will have what you need and will explain how to put it in.

THANK YOU, everybody! The cup washer seat thing was upside down in the hole. When I flipped it the problem was solved. You guys just saved me $100 for a plumber to come in for 2 minutes, flip the thing and look at me like I am a dumb blonde...
