    Spouses assuming debt in PA
Hello, I live in PA and I was wondering if my fiancé has a judgement and we get married prior to it being paid off will I have to assume that debt or will they be able to claim "my stuff" i.e. cars, bank accounts, etc. We do not have a joint account and do not plan to get one anytime soon! We are in no rush to get married but it is one of the things holding us back? Oh, and along with the judgement how about me being responsible for any of his debt (good or bad)? Thanks!

You should not be held responsible for debt that you did not sign for unless incurred while married. And even then, you still might not be responsible unless the laws of that state require it.

Thank you so much. I didn't think so but I was searching and searching the web and couldn't find any definitive information about PA law in regards to this. We are going to hope for the best whenever the day comes, hopefully it will all be taken care of by then!
