When we moved into our house 13 years ago, there were 3 ceiling fans already installed but we didn't use them. The one in the kitchen definitely shouldn't be there. It one of those on a pole so it's farther from the ceiling, but that puts the lights at about 5'6" off the ground. Can't count how many times it's been hit with a head. :D When trying the one in the living room, it wobbles and the base hits something. So, of course, we just used the lights on it. There anything we can do to make the fan stable?

Your going to have to go to the root of the problem and check where the fan mounts to the ceiling if it wobbles that bad my guess is either the mounting bracket is loose or the electrical box itself is loose. Is this fan also on a downrod? Post back and tell us what you think. GOOD LUCK, AC

Blades by code should be 7' above floor. Hitting people in the head can bend the brackets. You will have to replace brackets or bend back into position, I have bought universal brackets at home depot.

There are weights that can be used to balance the fan blades, but use them at the last resort.

On the fan that is too low, there are downrods available in various sizes at the big box stores. Some fans allow mounting with no downrod.

The first thing you need to check is if the box it's mounted to is stable. There are kits to ix that too.

For the kitchen fan, you can purchase a shorter down rod or remove it entirely. Drop the fan down, and check on how the downrod is mounted inside the housing.

What make/model are the fans?

To fix a wobbling fan, most often you only need to balance the blades. Here are instructions:

Also make sure nothing has shaken itself loose. Check the mount, check all the screws, make sure everything is tight. Some parts are meant to move and some are not.
