OK, I am completely non-mechanical... a bookworm... never even changed a tire (I did fix a lock once). With that as a preface... the sprayer head on my kitchen sink leaks. It is a pretty simple problem, as it is plastic (first problem) and it is leaking along the split in the front where the two sides of the molded plastic were supposed to be permanently glued together. So I figure I need to replace the head. Since it is the head only and not the whole sprayer, can I just go out and buy a new head, cut this one off the hose, and stick the next one on? That seems too easy for non-mechanical me, so I don't want to get started and then have to hire a plumber to get me out of trouble. Thanks for any insights..?

I am not sure you can buy just the head. You can buy a new head with a hose attached. Except for it being up under the sink, changing the hose at the faucet is no harder than at the head. Likely unscrew a clamp, pull the hose off, slip the new one on, and tighten up the clamp. Old hoses can be hard to remove. Try turning it with a pair of pliers. Otherwise, slice it length ways with a box cutter or something.

As usual, Labman was right on target. Purchase a universal spray head replacement. This will come with a hose and sometimes a replacement receptacle that you may discard if the originnal is OK. Go under the sink and follow the hose back to the base of the faucet. Unscrew the old hose connection, (you don't have to shut the water off to change out the sprayer) and pull the old spray head and hose out. Now thread the new hose through the receptacle and wrap a littlle teflon tape on the threads of the 1/8" brass fitting that adapts the faucet body to the hose. now tighten the connection and give yourself a pat on the back. For a "bookworm" you have just completed your first plumbing job.. Cheers, Tom
