I also have one of these Non-self propelled propelled lawnmowers. If it is out of warranty, where do I go to get it fixed properly? And any idea on how much it will cost?
Any answers/suggestions welcome.

Ken not knowing where you live I'd say your best bet is the Yellow pages, call the guys with the biggest ads, they earned some money to pay for the ad.

Thanks for responding. Not sure if it made any difference, is why I didn't say where I was. I am in Houston, TX. I was wondering if there was a central location to contact for repairs. It sounds like I will be at the mercy of the local repair places. Not so much worried about the cost but the time it takes to get the repairs done.

The previous comments indicate that this problem has something to do with the V-belt. Is this something I can repair myself? For example, just replacing a belt?

The problem I experienced sounded and felt like a drive gear cog slipping and wearing out, until there were no teeth left on it. Is this a belt problem?

This might help you. Troy-Bilt: Home Improvement & Home Repair Help Can you explain a little further. Since this is non swelf propelled I am not sure what belt you are talking about. Is there a belt from the engine to the blade pulley? Plug your zip into this thread and it should take you to a local Troy authorized service center. MTD bought Troy awhile back.

Hi again. I was being a little sarcastic when I said "non-propelled" It is supposed to be self propelled, but that is what is not happening.
I didn't know about MTD buying Troy. But thanks for the tip on searching for the service center. I'll check that out.

I rebuit the drive on a Troy self-propelled. It's basically a variable speed friction drive. The crunching sounds like the bearings on the drive shaft. You will probably have to replace the bearings, friction wheel and belt.

The drive system is a little tricky, especially to put the belt back on. It does require some torx screwdrivers. To get the tension right, you may need a feeler gage. 0.040 might be the right clearance when non-engaged.

If the wheels are worn, they will have to be replaced too. If the parts are not available through MTD Products Landing Page, you will have to resort to a lawn mower shop with aftermarket resources.

You could have said a current non-self-propelled self-propelled mower.

If the bearings are shot it makes sense to get the repair done ASAP before it does shaft damage,

Take the plastic plate off on the front of the engine, to assess if it's beyond you.

Small engines are cake compared to a vehicle carb rebuild with 120 parts or a steering rack replacement or removing the intake manifold of a foreign car with a carb.
