    Infected Bellybutton ring?
I got my belly button pierced about two weeks ago and I had pain at first but it has gone away now But I do have redness around the top hole and puss coming from it. I have started with constant salt baths so maybe it would help, which has a little but it still pusses. I also have very dry skin around the top hole so it sticks to the bar and pulls my skin. Can I put lotion so it won't be so dry or will that irritate it too? I don't really know what to do so if anyone can help me I would be very grateful.

    THANKS

Is the discharge you've been having green or yellow? Does it smell bad? Green/yellow discharge that smells bad are common indicators of infection.

If the discharge is clear, and dries yellow (its only yellow after its dry), this is actually not infection, it is quite normal. If it is clear, it is your body's white blood cells trying to patch the hole in your body. It is your body's natural defense mechanism and is normal.

What exactly do you do to your piercing daily? What do you put on it? How often? Has it been injured lately? I need an example of your daily routine with your piercing so I can see if you maybe need to make some changes. :)

The yellow stuff dosent' come out until I move the ring around and the yellow stuff dosen't really have a smell so I don't know if it is really infection But it is not clear, it more of a yellowish color which is kind of gross. When I get a chance I try to get all of it out of the hole but it always comes back. And I don't know what it could be coming from.

If you are that worried about it, see a doctor. Always see a doctor when you are in doubt. If it is by any chance infected, you need antibiotics.

Is it severely red? Severely swollen?

It is not severely red or swollen and it has slowed down on the pussingn I have been putting peroxide on it to boil it out and it has seemed to help a little. And I can't really go to the doctor right now.

You really shouldn't be putting peroxide on your piercing. It can severely dry it out and just make things worse, so please be careful. Just remember that the only thing that will fully cure an infection is antibiotics -- nothing else!

How painful is it? Scale of 1-10?

It's itsn't that painful anymore. The puss has started to turn to a more whiteish color but the bar is pretty close to the surface of the skin at least it feels that way.

Ouch. That sounds like rejection. When a piercing rejects, your body actually pushes the jewelry out. That can be very painful, nasty and can leave significant scarring.

Common signs of rejection are the piercing is constantly sore, the skin over the jewelry is thin enough that you can se the jewelry through it, the jewerly appears to kind of hang, rather than be tight and the piercing hole gets larger.

If you have any of these symptoms, the only thing you can do is remove the jewelry to prevent the rejection from going any further. If you let the rejection take its course, it will leave very significant scarring. Good luck.
