View Full Version : The Looney Bin
Well, for those of you not familiar with The Lounge, it was a place to relax, have fun, no serious discussions.
I have thought about opening a second location. This one is called the Looney Bin. A place to have fun in between serious posts.
I guess it is obvious that I am on Spring Break with no where to go other than here or my books.
Please, pull up a chair, grab a glass of kool-aid, and join in. I am currently taking orders for Bar-B-que, favorite flavors of Kool-aid, and anything else you would like to just have fun with.
Come on in, let's have fun.

Hmmm. Now that I am here, can't help but look around and comment on the lack of decorations. Any brewskies left?
Baby, you would freeze those cupcakes of yours off if you tried to jump in the pool here!
Yes you are. I called you one this morning. Now that it is the afternoon, you are a crone, like me.
I am supposed to be going over to Magprob's house in an hour to take care of that very, very bad boy.
Aren't they in the classification of fairy? CBW, are you are fairy?
Well, I guess I will since I don't know what a short bus is.
I am assuming that you are talking about the special ed kids when you say "the short bus". If that is the case, I already knew that about him. He is a freak. That is why I like him. ;)
Okay. Now that I am here, we seem to be short of some folks and the conversation is a bit stilted. Why can't I hear the music? Am I going deaf?
Well, it seems like excon and magprob are knocking heads. That would be fun to watch.
What about NeedKarma, and Synnen, are they around?
And boots.
It wouldn't be a party without you dear monkeyboy!

You two have been having way too much fun. LOL. Good for you - it is well deserved. Ok, Janine, I am sending Brandon over your way, aas he is on spring break too. He is easy to please - Barney, mac and cheese, and lots of hugs, and a bubble bath before bedtime.
I was sent this site this afternoon - photography - very nicely done - Photos by HUNG TON (http://www.photo.net/photodb/member-photos?user_id=1353822&include=allhttp://http://www.photo.net/photodb/member-photos?user_id=1353822&include=all)
I was also sent the link to the blogspot of This, That and Everything - lots of neat pictures, little stories, cartoons, etc. This and That and More of the Same (http://thisandthatandmoreofthesame.blogspot.com/)
Oh, Brandon and Johnny would have SO much fun. Barney and Mac-N-Chz.

I am back. There is a pool of drool sitting next to my chair. The dog is staring intently at the screen. Oh, now I see what happened. Shame on you Ruby, you know you are not allowed to use my 'puter.
When I woke up this morning the wireless thermostat for outside wasn't registering, it was that cold.
Synnen, J_9 needs a good old fashioned southern stompin' for her taunting today.

Does anyone here fancy themselves as a wine expert?
Here is a fun test for you. Let's see how well you do:
Wine IQ: FINE LIVING IQ Test: All About Wine : Fine Living (http://www.fineliving.com/fine/pac_ctnt_988/text/0,,FINE_26036_58701,00.html)
shygrneyzs
Mar 7, 2007, 03:53 PM
Ok, I took that test and had to stop at the first question - why dirty a glass when one can drink from the bottle? That makes sense to me. Would save me the frustration of knowing which wine glass to use also. Lol
Curlyben
Mar 7, 2007, 03:54 PM
You're done!
You answered 9 out of 10 questions correctly.
Fine Wine Expert
You know your vintages and meritages. If you don't already have a small wine collection, you should start amassing one.
Little so and so's marked me down for a correct answer as the question was incorrect.
There's another bad question there, can anybody spot it ?
Synnen
Mar 7, 2007, 04:01 PM
Holy cow.
I got 8 of 10.
I have no idea how I did that.
I didn't even look at the hints!

I want to know which question CurlyBen had a problem with.
Curlyben
Mar 7, 2007, 11:01 PM
OK Ruby.
I was marked down on Question 5.
o Which wines should be served cold? Champagne and dessert wines
o You chose:Anything white
My answer IS correct. The question was badly worded.
Also 6. Question 6.
o Champagnes are typically produced from which grape? Chardonnay
o You chose:Chardonnay
IS bad as Pinot Noir is also a choice AND one of the major Champagne grapes ;)

However I will be back!! Trust me on that... and I will live there too!
It is amazing what a little child's tylenol can do!
Does he have strep? Boy is that going around up here!
No, not strep. He has RAD, Reactive Airway Disorder. He gets a croupy cough and a slight fever whenever the trees and flowers begin to bloom. It is a little like asthma, but only happens a couple of times a year.
So, in with the Tylenol 3 and Albuterol Syrup, a breathing treatment or two and he is fine.
Good thing Mommy is in nursing school!!
For places I would love to go back to... Alaska. I miss it so much up there!

J_9, I am not very happy with you. :( I was knocking on the window trying to get out of room 301 in the Institution on Wednesday and you walked right by me! That guy Krazy Karl finally let me out. I had to tie sheets together and shimmy down the freakin' drain pipe. J_9, I will never let you talk me into any kind of tour again. Yeah, very nice. "Look Ruby, it will be fun. Don't worry, I will be here right next to you. Blah, blah, blah,..." You wicked, wicked, wench. I missed the St. Paddy's day celebration in town. Since I was so tired last night from my trip (and knocked out from the Haldol) I got confuzzled. I don't have a nob. But, it still has been a long time since I have seen any up close and personal. Sigh. Tinsign, don't be too upset about not knowing what they are. It is a term used by those of the United Kingdom persuasion. I worked with a bunch of them back in the day and that is one of the least offensive terms I picked up. They like us to think they are classy and distinguished but they are the most sexually perverse individuals you will ever meet. Especially CBW. That girl is touched. Sorry guys... need to vent... because I can't do it at work.
What is with people?!
We have this huge meeting with the state for a student's educational plan. The paperwork is due tomorrow, however, I wanted my administrator to see the paperwork before we sent it in (make sure it was up to snuff) so I handed it to her last Friday. Everything was all good. So we sent it on to the parent.
Long and short of it... the secretary had additional paperwork that we needed and did not know about. Now a 15 page packet is due to the child's school district tomorrow... and I have to teach on top of it. RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

I just have had a very nasty cold that's kept me pretty much bed-bound for the last 3 days. I feel MUCH better today, but very tired all of the time.
I had no idea how much bad TV is on in the middle of the day, though. /shudders
RubyPitbull
Mar 21, 2007, 01:18 PM
LOL. Yes. Watching the garbage on TV can make you feel worse than you already do! I am glad you are feeling better. Fighting the infection really saps your strength. Look on the bright side -- hopefully you will be fully recovered in time to enjoy the weekend! :)
Synnen
Mar 21, 2007, 01:25 PM
Lol... I'm just hoping that I don't get fired for missing 3 days of work!
I feel AWFUL about that, honestly. I've never missed 3 days in a row of work in my life.
RubyPitbull
Mar 21, 2007, 01:31 PM
LOL. Well, no one can accuse you of not having a good work ethic!
Just think of it this way... it is better that you are out of work then being there and making everyone else sick.
I hope you don't have a major backlog waiting for you when you get back.
Synnen
Mar 21, 2007, 01:47 PM
It's a very small company... I feel bad that my co-workers had to pick up my slack!
But there shouldn't be much backlog, I wouldn't have been able to get any work done anyway, and I'm SURE they didn't want this gunk.
RubyPitbull
Mar 21, 2007, 01:52 PM
Yes, it is better that you stayed away, whether they realize it or not. I used to send people home that tried to drag their butts into the office.
Don't feel bad though. There is a silver lining to this. The tables will be turned at some point and you will be on the receiving end of picking up someone else's slack when they get sick.:p
Synnen
Mar 21, 2007, 01:58 PM
lol... what a great bright side!
I'm pretty sure they know me well enough to know I wouldn't take 3 random days off for no reason. I've only been there 6 months, though, so I am a little nervous. I have a doctor's note, though!
I wish more bosses were like you... I HATE when people bring their germs to the office and then wonder why everyone is mad at them for doing so.
RubyPitbull
Mar 21, 2007, 02:05 PM
Haha. I KNOW! I am so susceptible to viruses and I always get sick no matter what I do. But, the bottom line is that the owners want everyone in whether they are sick or not. They would get angry at me for sending people home. But, since we had a paid sick day policy, I told them they had a choice, either pay someone who makes less money for sick days, or pay for my sick days when I inevitably got sick! :p
I can understand your concern. But, I am sure they have a pretty good handle on your work ethic by now and bringing in the doctor's note will definitely show them that you weren't fooling around. Once you are back in the swing of things, it won't be held against you. Especially if you have been consistent in your attendance. They will just be grateful you are back and okay.
Synnen
Mar 21, 2007, 02:13 PM
Thanks, Ruby! You've made me feel a TON better about it.
Isn't it horrible that we live in a society where you feel guilty when you're sick?
RubyPitbull
Mar 21, 2007, 02:22 PM
Yes. There is a different work mentality than there used to be. The attitude is "Anyone can be replaced." That started in the '80s. It is amazing to me at how much of our benefits have decreased and yet, more is always expected of us. Then we wonder why we are so stressed as a society. I don't think I have met anyone outside of minimum wage workers, who isn't expected to handle the job of at least two people. And, with the advent of e-mails, cell phones, and blackberries, there isn't any time to sit and do your work without being interrupted every few minutes. I used to work in NYC. Talk about stress and guilt! Ack! I was always getting sick.
Synnen
Mar 21, 2007, 02:27 PM
I was just recently thinking about how much more I liked my job(s) when I had less responsibility. The increase in pay is nice, but it sometimes feels like I should be making more for all that I'm doing!
RubyPitbull
Mar 21, 2007, 02:39 PM
That is the problem. The owners think they are being very generous and expect that their workers should be grateful and want to put in overtime. The bottom line is always their profit margin. They need to keep the amount of employees low to accomplish that. So, they throw a few extra bucks your way and act hurt when someone suggests it isn't enough for the job they are doing. We are fast becoming a nation of the haves and the have nots.
Personally, I have gotten to the point in my life that I would rather make less money, have less responsibility, so I can enjoy my life. I am looking to downsize and get rid of a lot of the "stuff". I realize I don't need that much. I would rather enjoy my friends and doing work for the local animal shelters. It is a lot more gratifying to me. And, I just want to have a bit of fun which working the way I was, didn't allow me to. But, then again, I am not starting in life. I am kind of winding down. So, I have a different perspective and financial needs, than someone in their 20's or 30's.
BTW, if I don't respond to you, it means I had to shut down. Online traffic is getting very heavy and I am having trouble accessing the longer threads.
Synnen
Mar 21, 2007, 03:02 PM
No worries about a lack of response, ever :) I usually leave this board behind when I go home for the day, myself.
I love how employers talk about a lack of employee loyalty, and complain when someone they "nurtured" for a position leaves for more money/better benefits.
I'm perfectly happy to put my all into my job most days, and stay late and help out where needed... but if/when we start a family, then I'll be punching out on time and actually TAKING my vacations. I hate how that will put me at a disadvantage, but priorities are priorities!
RubyPitbull
Mar 21, 2007, 03:53 PM
You know, the problem with doing what you are doing is that they get used to your putting in the extra effort. When you start pulling back due to other obligations, they complain. All of a sudden, all that extra work that you aren't paid for that you have been doing for so long, is forgotten in the blink of an eye. It is kind of like, Yeah, what you did was great before, but what have you done for me lately? Never fails. I have seen it time and again.
I am watching that pet food recall on TV. So far, 250 pets have died, they expect a lot more. Major lawsuits starting. Unfortunately, pets are considered property under the law, not family members.
Synnen
Mar 21, 2007, 03:58 PM
That really bothers me --the pet food recall, I mean.
I'm so glad we never used that brand (my kitties are SPOILED) because I think I'd go nuts thinking that I caused my pet's death by choosing the wrong food.
I feel horrible for the people that have lost a "family member" due to this.
RubyPitbull
Mar 21, 2007, 04:04 PM
Me too. When it first came out, I was calling everyone I know with pets. I don't buy that stuff either. My dog is on a special high fiber diet due to a poor start in life. She cannot eat wet food or she has major loose poopy problems. :(
You want to join me in giving advice to a poor lad who is suddenly dealing with raging hormones? His posting is in Child & Teen health. You can be the wise, sexy older woman ala Mrs. Robinson. RubyPitbull
Mar 21, 2007, 04:55 PM
Good job! I like the planning idea. I think he is overstating it a bit. But, at least he is recognizing that it is becoming a problem for him. I think at 12, if he is doing 9 times a day he will be pretty chafed, very quickly. At that age, they don't think about the tricks men use.
Synnen
