As I don't have an artistic bone in my body... I will stick to camping.
But I will do it in my camper with the microwave, bathroom, and fridge. Tenting is just too much work

It's really not that bad if you go to some nice places... like northern cali, or if you go up to Washington and camp it's beautiful up there. What I like about camping, is the sense of community you get when you see all of your tents built and everyone around the campfire it's a humbling experience...

Oh heck no!! No tents for me! I need my queen size bed with the TV in the wall. Now that is camping. Camping on my terms means a camper with heat and AC. As well as a freezer full of ice so that I can make myself a nice cocktail... could use one right now actually.

Ladies, let us not forget the joy of camping outside a Nordstrom's the night before the fabulous Anniversary Sale!!
My idea of camping is a 3 room tent on the Kenai River in Alaska.

Ahh J-9.
That is even a bit roughing it for me.
Where would I plug in my hair dryer... and I do so need my coffee pot in the morning.

I'm with NK on this one.
And yeah... no coffee is BAD. You wouldn't like me when I don't have coffee.
Ya don't need a hair dryer...
Plug in a coffee pot? Get a kettle and put it over the fire!!

Y'know they have those voltage inverters for cars now where your lighter plug becomes a regular 120 volt outlet - you could plug in any electrical device that you want. There's your Plan B. :D
I used to feel the same way you all do until I got introduced to real Alaska Camping. Now I will never go back!
Who said anything about ashes in the coffee. Apparently I didn't make it. LOL
You need just the right pot and have your campfire configured so that it is coffee and barbecue ready. Just little camping tricks I have picked up along the way.
And you have your special honey to keep you warm at night. Jeez, no wonder I have 4 kids :o

J_9,
It must be nice and I think I could maybe do a night or two... buuuuuut, then only thing I think would get to me, is the BUGS. Ick. Eeek and ooooook.
But I bet it is an amazing experience.

May 4, 2007, 09:57 AM
So I will meet you in Alaska sometime. I have a friend who is a teacher there... you need a bush plane to get to her village... I am sure we could find some wilderness there :)
Synnen
May 4, 2007, 09:57 AM
I've done every kind of camping there is... from a fully decked out RV to survivalist camping where you have to find half your food along the way.
I'd STILL rather have a hotel, a beach, some margaritas, and coffee in the mornings.
Allheart
May 4, 2007, 09:57 AM
What's a bush plane?
Tuscany
May 4, 2007, 10:01 AM
It is a tiny tiny plane used to transport people and supplies to northern Alaska. They are used a lot in the winter when the roads (if there are roads) are not cleared.

"The percentage of women under forty-five who knit or crochet has doubled since 1996," says Stoller (The BUST Guide to the New Girl Order), co-founder of the Stitch 'n circle in New York, and this slightly offensive, sassy guide-which could easily have been subtitled 'The Bad Girls' Guide to Knitting'-will undoubtedly appeal to this new generation of knitters.
Starting with the basics, Stoller explains how to cast on, knit, purl, and bind off, all the steps needed to make a simple Ribbed-for-Her-Pleasure Scarf or a pair of Pippi Kneestockings. Easy-to-decipher diagrams and droll section headings ("Knit Happens," "Oops, I Knit It Again") ease readers through these first steps and will give most the confidence to tackle larger projects-like Cricket's Technicolor Cozy or Meema's Felted Marsupial Tote-designed by Stitch 'n ers in Stoller's group and other knitters she admires.
What makes this guide exceptional, however, is its chapter on the "Wonderful World of Knitters," which details how to start your own Stitch 'n circle and plug into the virtual knitting communities on the Web. Informative, colorful and full of attitude, this book is the perfect primer for 20- and 30-somethings looking to take on this hip "new" hobby. Copyright

Howdy ladies. J_9 please give me enough Margarita to fill my dogbowl, no salt. I have had a tough couple of days and to top it all off, while shopping today Magprob popped into my head! How incredibly unsettling is that? I noticed a big stack of Spam displayed in a prominent area. It seems that Hormel is celebrating 70 years of offering their yummy Spam to the general public for consumption. They are now selling it as a two pack special with the old advertising labels. Woo Hoo! I am sure Magprob is in Spam heaven.

Drinking alcohol shrinks the brain.
WEDNESDAY, May 2 (HealthDay News) -- While it might help your heart, drinking even moderately could shrink your brain, U.S. researchers say.
"A small amount of alcohol is beneficial for the heart," noted lead researcher Carol Ann Paul, "but there is a continuous negative correlation between alcohol consumption and total brain volume. It seems that there is not a beneficial effect of even small amounts of alcohol on brain volume."
Well, this explains a lot! Like every time I lean my head to the left or the right, it sounds like a bowling ball rolling down the ally and crashing into the wall. And I just thought I was going crazy! Whew!

I love you all. You keep me grounded and reaffirm that I am not losing my grip on my sanity. Some days are just harder than others but thankfully, I have my girls to help me through it. Catch y'all later. MWAH!
Before I go, Emmy & Tusc, you are included in my "love" group along with many others. Hey, if you can't have a place to go to let off a little steam and act like an idjut, you will blow your top! So, Emmy, yes I am gauging my sanity by this lot. I don't need a lot of sanity. A little will suffice. ;)

Me too J-9. When we had our other little guy ( he was supposed to be a maltese, but we think he was puppymill, but loved him soooo much) anyway, our "son" was petrified of storms. So hubby and I could never really enjoy them. It is the only time he would let me pick him up. During a storm, I used to rock him back and forth. He was so scared.
But now he is in doggy heaven. He gave us 15 incredible years. Storms always remind me of him.
But nothing like a good thunderstorm.
My Tuscany tries to be all brave when the storms hit. But one good clap of thunder and up he jumps into Mommy's lap.
Awww LOL Tuscany. Even though my little guy was so scared. I just cherished those moments he let me hold him.

I LOVE a good storm.

I guess it is also time for me to dump my stock in the Max Factor and Maybelene Make up manufacturing sector. I guess a put option might be in order. Too bad there isn't a cosmetic index. A June put with no stops!

I got a little upset about how some people think it is okay for a 13 year old girl to date a 17 year old boy, among some other things.
I hope you all can pick up some of my slack in the meantime. I will check in every once in a while. But I think I just need a break.

J-9 - I don't blame you for a second. I am one of 5 and I could never understand why mom would spaz so much. And I mean spaz. All 5 of us did real well.
I didn't date really till I was on my own, but when my sisters did, they had to walk. My sister and her date. She did not let them get into the car. LOL. But you know, she had to handle it the best she knew.

Apparently boys there are different than boys here. Boys here have NO respect, for the most part that is. Many do, but it is a different day in age. CBW that was eons ago that you were 14, well, maybe only 10 years (I won't tell the truth I promise) but times have changed.

Believe it or not, I was for mine. Due to necessity. We talked before about that CBW.
It may have be the very right thing for you CBW. It may have kept you safe. If that makes sense. My first boyfriend was a whole lot older than me and I think it kept me safe.
