Ok all you décor experts how about some suggestions for colours for my hall, stairs and landing. I'm still filling cracks in and sanding so not been for any paint yet. I'll be getting a new carpet so there's no restrictions on matching to anything. Any ideas?
I even did some plastering for the first time and I'm pretty pleased with the results, but I've no idea what colour I fancy.

As tempting as that is, I'm not sure it's doable. I will, however, be washing smaller items (like bras, panties, and some of my shirts) in the sink. The less money I have to spend on laundry, the better.

Sounds good heath.
Q I would be the wrong person to ask. I have bold tastes when it comes to paint.
What colors do you like? Earth tones, cool tones? I've always been partial to sky blue or a blue-green in the bath room with the dark accents.
Kind of like the pics below.

If there are windows that let in a lot of natural light, then a light yellow will amplify the light and make the space seem roomier.
The light comes from bulbs, then a light blue will accomplish the same thing. Just try to stay away from the powder blues, as they can get overwhelming and candy-like over large areas.
Greens can be touchy, and will look sickly in the wrong light.
You could always go for bold and use a bright, vibrant color. Think little kids' crayon box.

Heath, I found one of those old school washer and ringer dryer at this yard sale, I paid like $2 for each. I wash all my socks and underoo's in there, plus E's clothes too. All I need now is a butter churn.:cool:

having never had the option of choosing colors for my walls, I haven't spent a great deal of time thinking about it. I know a few basic guidelines, but it's hard for me to imagine how most colors will look on walls.
someday, I want to have a 'striped' wall. I'll start with a light base, probably yellow. From there I'll have 10-12 little containers of paint with a brush in each one. I'll pick up a brush at random and swipe it across the wall at random. Repeat until it looks done.
a couple years back I helped splatter paint a wall. It was fun. We just poured paint into our hands and threw it at the walls ^_^

I've always wanted to learn how to churn butter. And weave fabric. And spin yarn.
I think it would be amazing to be able to take raw fiber and turn it into a finished blanket, or something.
Someday, I will build my own loom.

That would be a sheet hanging on the wall, because it's too neat to actually use as a sheet. Yes, that IS a kid's school desk I use as a nightstand. That lumpy thing would be my sudo-bed.

I used to steal milkers from the 7-11 so I could have cereal. Not sure if it was stealing seeing as they were giving them away with coffee. All I had to do was dig up .35 cents for a small coffee.

Someday, I'll be able to afford a real mattress. Until then, I at least have something to sleep on.
Hehe, spot keeps falling off the back of the couch. He lays up there to relax. The only problem is that he flops over when he falls asleep, and he is NOT graceful. Next thing I know, he's falling down the back of the couch and I'm laughing at him.

Thanks for all the inspiring pictures people, such lovely colours to choose from. Now I'm wishing all the rotten filling and sanding was finished sigh. It's 2am here so I think hubby might object if I get the sander out now lol. Still all those lovely finished rooms will help get me motivated to crack on again tomorrow.

Hey dudes. How are you. I'm fantastical. Let me tell yous something!!
So two nights ago I was working and there was a group of guys. In that group was a guy that kind of seemed like a tag-along. So I we talked a bit. He told me that he just came along because his friends was going off to Iraq. We laughed had some good conversation. By the end of the night he was like "I know you must get this a lot, but would you like to go out to dinner Thursday night?". I said okay! :) I wore the red dress [if you remember]. Well last night we went to a pretty nice place, I've actually never been to it. We laughed the whole time, and ended up going to McDonalds for desert. When he dropped me off he brought home an extra sundae for Rachel, which I thought was really nice, and we spent the night together.. no not like that. We watched Wayne's World, Fast Times At Richmond High [something like that]-- just old movies. And it was just fun. We kissed goodnight, but lol not a makeout thing.. I don't want to move too fast-- even though it would've been nice to have my bones jumped [haha? TMI? ]
Ugh the best part is that he is freakin' cute. He looks like Gary Dourdan from CSI, but with short hair [kind of like a buzz cut]. He has the bright eyes Gary has too.
Okay that's my update :) ♥

Hey Bella! There was no test after all. The teacher corrected the homework, and talked, talked, talked... going from 'NMR' to politics, to capital punishment, to the newspapers, to the system of education of France and England, to that of Pakistan... so much so that there was not enough time for the test. It was therefore postponed for some other day. :p
We then watched a clip on chromatography: ascending, descending, thin layer and column 'chromatographies'.

Well I'm off guys. The most handsome guy is coming over any minute now to pick me and Rachel up-- we're going to the beach :) I have plucked and waxed every hair off me and did a hell of a lot more crunches and have eaten nothing but fresh fruits and veggies and water [i'm starving] since he asked me to the beach hahaha...

Oh, how easy this is to do!
Seriously, I'm not quite satisfied with yesterday's homework correction... I left several mistakes. Well, actually, I tried to do as fast as I could, and without any revision of what I did, and proceeded to the correction. In a 40 multiple choice questions (chemistry) I got 7 wrong answers, 6 of which could have been avoided if I took more time to look into the question... :(
I need more practise...
Oh, I just saw an article on BBC saying that the A level exams might introduce a new grade, the A*, which is a grade higher than the A grade for this year. It is recent, and I don't know if it'll really be introduced... I wonder what effect this will have on all the participants.

The Internet I've been using is screwed up. Whoever owns it needs to reset it, but they're probably away for the weekend. I can get a signal, but I can't actually use it.
So, I'm sitting in front of the hospital. They've put up some SERIOUS firewalls in the last couple months. Myspace, Facebook, anything involving online games, Yahoo mail, all proxy servers, instant messengers, and pretty much everything else, is blocked. This site and my hotmail are about the only things I can actually check.
OK, now I'm going home. Sorry I won't be able to respond any more tonight. Unless, of course, the Internet gets fixed. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. I'd really like to be able to check my Yahoo, since that's the one all my family sends emails to.

Today was an eventful day, even though I've done basically nothing all day.
Mop may have a home. A friend of my neighbors was visiting. He had a cat that looked a lot like mop that had to be put down. He wants mop and asked me to keep him for now. Mop may have a new home, and a new name, in a few weeks.
I took spot outside and he met a doggie and a couple kids and walked in the grass. He's still not sure how he feels about the whole thing. I'm going to get a real harness, once I find one, and get him used to going outside on walks.

As much as I'm looking forward to only having to clean up after 3 cats, I didn't realize how much I'd missed having a bunch of cats around. I spent 2 years surrounded by 5 cats, and then 9 after one of the 'boys' had babies.
I think I'll be OK, though, if I know they're going to good homes where they'll be loved and cared for and treated like the little people they are.

Happy Memorial Day to those in the US!!
We had a cook out today, went the whole way again, about 50 or so people and kids. Tents (95 today with 97% humidity), fans blowing water mists, music, Tiki torches, cheeseburgers, bratwurst, hot dogs, potato salad, regular salads, lots of fruits, cold shrimp, Coronas, Mikes, Mohitas (sp), wines, chocolate cake, hot apple pie, ice creams, banana & grape pop cycles... and dancing at night on the patio, very romantic... :)
Started at 4 PM and the last guests just left at 12:25 AM. Great time for everyone, they all seemed to have had enough to eat (we have tons of food left as always) .
I put a lot of little US flags all over the landscaping in the front and back with a very large one in the middle with Tiki torches all around...
It was fun... man am I full...
Marta was a fantastic hostess as always, she can almost do anything, including leading a political conversation... :)
I hope all have a great holiday!

If dating for them is hanging out, I wouldn't be so ill thinking about what's to come. But that thing about kids having kids, is so true. There is a girl in my town who is 14 and pregnant. Her mom thinks it's wonderful. She is always at the Wal Mart buying baby stuff. I know her older brother who is completely mortified about the whole situation.
The girl said it's like a fad at school. These girls think it's cute and fun to be pregnant. It's a fad to have a baby!

When I was 16, I was a CIT (counselor in training) at a camp I'd gone to since I was about 10. There was a girl there who missed her sister because she couldn't be at camp that year. She was 12-13 and pregnant. There was another girl who's cousin was pregnant with her second set of twins. She was 15.
My sister got pregnant when she was 16. That was bad enough. I just can't wrap my head around 12 year olds getting pregnant, or a 15 year old having 4 kids, already.

I used to love to take a walk in our local graveyard, until the night hubby and I (then boyfriend and I) went to put flowers on his fathers grave and spent 3 hours looking for the crooked tree that he swears is right next to the grave!
It's a hug cemetery, we never did find the grave, but we did get escorted out by the police.

The fun never ends with R. ;)
I grew up taking family walks in the cemetery. We'd go a couple times a month, as long as the weather was good. It was always a special treat. We'd take paper and crayons so we could make rubbings of the headstones. Afterward, we'd grab an ice cream cone across the street, then walk home.
It was one of the few times when it was sure to be quiet family time. I don't remember us ever fighting or yelling at each other or being upset. Our mom instilled in us that the cemetery was a quiet, peaceful place where you showed respect for the dead. It wasn't a place for yelling or running or fighting. It wasn't a place to be feared. It was a place of peace and remembering.
It's a belief I still hold close to my heart.

For me it's a place to get arrested, either because we're lost but look like we're up to no good, or the time that my mom decided to give me driving lessons in the cemetery because she figured I couldn't kill anyone there, or the time that my boyfriend and I got caught making out by the Chinese burial pavilion.
I'm going to be cremated and put on a shelf. I don't have luck in cemeteries. ;)

Hehe, my sister took me driving in the cemetery once, right after I'd gotten my permit. I'd only been driving once before, with my mom screaming in the passenger seat that I was going too fast (I was going 15, in a 35 zone). My oh-so-bright sister pointed behind me and said, 'what's that building for?' me, being a brand-spankin-new driver, turned around to see what she was pointing at. And took the steering wheel with me. My sister screamed, grabbed the wheel, and barely kept me from jumping the curb and desecrating graves.
I've never driven with my mom OR my sister, again. It's no wonder I still don't have my license. The first time I drove with my mother, I almost hit a fire hydrant taking a turn too wide. The first time I drove with my sister, I almost hit a grave. The first time I drove with a friend, I almost hit a flock of wild turkeys crossing the road.
In my defense, the turkeys were NOT my fault. Either was the $.47 that made it's way down the heater vent when I slammed on the brakes.

I was much worse Heath. My mom drove to the cemetery, got out, went to get in the passenger side and smart lazy girl that I am, I decided just to hop over to the driver side, over the emergency brake.
Well, long story short, I ended up accidentally disengaging the emergency brake as my mother was walking in front of the car.
I totally think she overreacted. It's not like I actually hit her and close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades.

I think I scared KP away after posting a picture of my parents.
Sorry guys. I know some people find it creepy that I have my mom and dad in my house with me, in a little alcove that R built especially for them. For me it's normal. I like having them with me, makes me feel like they're still here. Also, this was what they wished and heck, it saved me tons of money in burial fees. Okay, that was a joke. Laugh! Laugh!

OK, I've never hit anyone. Or almost hit anyone.
My mom's hit me with her car several times. Run over my foot a few times, too.
Now, before you go getting bent out of shape, there's a perfectly logical explanation.
My mother SUCKS at parallel parking. When we were little, it was our job to help. One of us would stand in front of her, the other behind. We'd wave her on and tell her when to stop when she was close. Well, sometimes she didn't stop quite soon, and we'd get hit and pinned against the other car. It usually wasn't even hard enough to leave a bruise.
Getting my feet run over was my own fault. That's what happens when you stand BESIDE the car, instead of behind it, to help someone parallel park. Never broke anything, or even hurt that much.

I love having them right next to me while I'm on the puter. It was originally the kids play area, we thought it would be nice to have them watching over the kids. Now it's the computer, bunny, sewing and human remains area. Again, joking. Well, not really. ;)
My dad died first, and my mom picked out the urn. When my mom died I wanted to get the same urn so they'd match. I called the funeral home and they told me that the urn was discontinued. Wow, it was only 6 months before! Anyway, that's when they told me it's a two person urn, perfect. A bit sad that mom planned it that way, but still great because they could be together.
So I took the urn to the funeral home so that my mom could be placed inside.
The day before my moms funeral the funeral director called me, and with a very sheepish voice, asked who I wanted on top, my mom or dad. I broke out laughing. The poor man thought I was crying and he was devastated.
For those that are curious. Moms on top, because she was lighter. ;)

I'd laugh, too. That's just not a question you expect to hear.
My grandpa will be buried right next to my grandma. Their grandson, who they adopted after his mom died, is buried on her other side. She died 6 months, to the day, after him. She just gave up. Told my grandpa was she wasn't going to outlive any more of her children (she buried her daughter and adopted son, and had more than one miscarriage/stillbirth).
My great grandma, my grandpa's mom, is buried a few rows over. My aunt is right behind her. Their headstones are back to back.
After my grandma died, I made plaques for all their graves. I pressed a dogwood blossom into wet clay and fired it, then glazed the imprint to match the blossom. I placed a pressed dogwood and a poem about the flower on my great grandma's and grandma's coffins, and I'll do the same for my grandpa.
My grandpa asked me to give him a copy of the poem after my grandma died. So, I made it as pretty as possible and framed it with a pressed blossom. It's still hanging in his living room.
Every year I collect dogwood blossoms to press. They remind me of my great grandma, and make me smile.

That's such a nice story Heath.
It's important to keep their memory alive. I tell my kids stories about my parents all the time. Jared knew them, and surprisingly still remembers them, even though he was just a wee toddler when they died.
Sydney was born 13 months after my mom died, so she didn't know them at all. :(

muddy, do you have any relatives who's last name you like? maybe a grandmother's maiden name or something?
Nope. Not really close to my family, except my two half-sisters, I made my own family:p
Alty lol nice suggestions I had a teacher- he was mr. lester, first name ,moe - I swear his parents hated him:eek:
--- I saw my boy last night, he came to my job. I thought it was nice, but I noticed something about him. He's the jealous type, and I'm not sure if I like that- only because it reminds me of my ex, he started jealous and it just escalated.
Guys can sometimes be d-bags, it's okay, I'm used to it, but buddy here decided to step in and basically claim me. I pulled him aside and told him to calm down that it's part of my job and that at least I'm not some stripper, I just make drinks.. and he told me "why don't you just get another job" and I told him "we'll talk about this later" and he just left me there... it was a nice feeling.
Oh well. It was nice while it lasted.
