I'm thinking about putting butcher block counter tops in. Or at least something that I don't have to grab a cutting board every time I go to cook... lol. The only problem is budget...

Butchers blocks the real ones need a hell of a lot of work it's the only think I hated cleaning when I was chef there s to scrub you have to do it with salt and a wire brush.
The only advice I can really give you is stay away from granite its a lot of work and needs treating and polishing and cleaning with special cleaners.

Amen to that!! I have granite and it looks and sounds so nice until you get it... you can't use anything on it. I can hardly disinfect it. You can use it without a cutting board, but I'd rather just have the board... I feel like it is never clean..

I would love to have butcher block counters. Sometimes we can find the old restaurant kind... If I can get some for cheap I will be adding them to my kitchen when we move. Yes Start you have to remember a real block is used to cut raw meat hense why they are scrubbed down with salt and a wire brush to get into all the scratches to bring out rotton stuff they really aren't that hygienic

You see, in addition to what CBW just said, it is wood and bacteria tends to get into the cracks and crevices and multiplies, so they are pretty, but not practical.

Its an earthtone from the counter top... its called sandstone I think... but it si just a dark tan. I really want slate or ceramic tile in my kitchen floor... I have nasty linoleum right now... The kitchen was the only thing the previous oners redid but they were horrible at picking out color schemes... im an artist, and I nearly fell over when I wlaked in to light pink, light blue, light yellow, and mint green walls.. loll

Myth I suggest Corian countertops... they make some that look like granite now, but are easier to clean.

Just a note for those of you who want slate or stone floors: be VERY careful what kind of finish is put on them. Some companies will put a horrible finish on the floor that looks GREAT... but is 5x as expensive to keep up. Check with someone on the cost of stripping and refinishing before you choose your finish.

Lysol Antibacterial is the best. Spray it on, spread it around with a paper towel and let it air dry.

Hope the day is going well for everyone... it has taken me most of the morning to recover from my Wine Camp that I took part in yesterday.

I love flying dreams. They are so much fun. I was having some weird dream that involved finding paper and going to the woods to cut the right tree for it... or something. IM sure it came from my stressing about my portfolio.

I have to leave early, because I have an appointment to get my eyes checked. I need to skip lunch to do so. Steve is still out, and will be the rest of the week. I'm doing my job AND his, and I'm not doing either one very well.

It's not even 9 am and I want to just go back to bed.

I completely understand hun, I nearly had a meltdown yesterday. I think your workplace must function similar to mine. I hate it when someone is out, and I'm expected to do my average workload on top of theirs in the same amount of time... its very aggravating.

It is like a trap... you can't unless you want to use your vacation time to do that and I don't want. I can't find another job even if I wanted to because Im pregnant, and despite what the law says, nobody hires a pregnant lady.

The only good thing about where I work now is that they let me take my classes and make up the time on the weekend. That is the only reason I have been here this long... I have been here for over 6 years now, and I have hated every minute.

I get here and look forward to lunch, and then I get back from lunch and look forward to 5... I hate it. I wish I had the option to just stay home with my kids...

Mock interviews? Like you go to a real business to get a feel for what you'll have to do, only there's not really a position?

You build the portfolio, have it critiqued, and you write resumes etc. Then as a final you get all dolled up like you were going to a real interview, portfolio in hand, and go on mock interviews. These are conducted at local design firms with their creative director. They look at your book and conduct an interview just as if you were coming for a position. Then they submit their thoughts and opinions back to my instructor and she gives me a final grade... sometimes, you get lucky, and the mock interview suddenly becomes a real interview and they hire you, but not typically... it is really stressful.

Yes I have to have my portfolio completed by next Wednesday, and then I present to my class first, then the interviews are the week after. IM nervous though, and we are required to wear a suit (my office is casual dress) and I really don't want to go buy a maternity suit I will never wear again, and my old one doesn't fit. Im just ready for it all to be over. Its finals time and I'm in 3 classes right now plus 40 hours at work, so I haven't really been sleeping a lot and I have been working non stop. I hardly have seen connor, except last night when he managed to fall in the toilet... its all really getting to me now.

So if I seem a little distant/and or moody, please ignore it :)

Try a consignment shop, Al. There's usually nice clothing, for MUCH cheaper than you pay new, and there are some that cater to maternity clothing.

The other option is to wear a suit jacket you own open, over a maternity top, and just buy a matching pair of maternity pants or skirt!
