    Ceiling Fan wiring
    I bought a Hampton Bay, Carriage house II Ceiling fan I want to be able to have the fan run without the lights on, but I would like to be able to turn the light on with the room switch, but still have the fan run with the room switch off. I know it can be done but I'm not getting how the wiring should be configured.

    I answered a post regarding a Hampton ceiling fan just this morning. Hampton ceiling fans have a website and you can access it through Google.

    I think though, because I will be installing a light fan combo soon that I can turn on the lights only on the unit with the wall switch, but still have to pull the cord for the fan to operate.

    You'll Need A 2way Switch,
    If You Don't Have One, Your Limited To A Pull Chain For The Fan And Light Switch For The Light. So You Could Also Switch It To Have The Fan And Light Come On At The Same Time.

    What The 2way Switch Will Do Is Give You Another Hot Wire In The Box.
    This Will Be An Extra Wire You'll Have To Run To Make This Switch Work.

    It's best to know what wires you have in the current switch and ceiling box?
    If a three wire was ran to the ceiling box, then it would be best to switch the light and fan seprately--using two single pole switches, or a double stack switch (depending on your current situation. Need more information.

    Also note, that you will need a UL listed paddle fan box to install your PF. Per Article 314.27 and reference 422.18

    Do you have a 2 conductor or 3 conductor wiring going from the switch to the fan junction box? If it's a 3 wire--install combination fan/lite control. If it's a 2 wire install a remote control under the canopy to control both functions independently.

    I concur with the posts that ask what wires you have in your outlet box. If you have three wires not including ground, this is possible. If not you will have to purchase a switch/receiver kit.
