Too many medications mixed?
I have been seeing a very well known specialist for depression as well as for narcolepsy, but we have been having a difficult time finding the appropriate medication for me. We have been working on this for a long time, but the depression has been the major issue. I saw him yesterday and he altered my prescription once again. I am not on a combination of affexor and zolof for depression and Ritalin & alertec for the narcolepsy. Due to the stimulents he has also put me on an antipshycotic medication because I was having difficulties falling asleep when I wanted to. Is this normal? Family and friends are starting to think that he is putting me on too many medications. I do not know what to think because I trust my doctor, but it is becoming a little much. I did talk to my doctor about it and he explained how it was trial and error to find the right conbo of meds for my body, but should I really be taking all of these? What effect can this have on me in the future?

I tried checking the drugs you are on, but only could find two of them.
I would say the best counsel you could get is from your pharmacist they are trained to know what drugs interact with what and go by their advice. Sometimes pharmacists knows more then the doctor. Make sure you getting all your medications from one pharmacist so they know all the medications your on, even over the counter medication.

Okay, let me see if I understand...
You are on
Effexor (how many milligrams?)
Zoloft (how many milligrams)
Ritalin (same question)
Alertec (again same question)
What antipsychotic are you on?
It is common to have sleeping problems with all of these, without the antipsychotic, that is a common side effect of all of these medications.
What time of day are you taking these meds? It is best to take them all first thing in the morning, right after breakfast. The earlier the better.

I take 3 of the big ones a day... alertec I take to a day ritalin I take 3 a day zoloft 1 a day... I will look into it... but I really do not know... I always go to the same pharmasist... and they have not said anything about it other than to tell me not to OD... and I take them all in the morning other than the seroquel...

Okay so you are taking Seroquel, are you having your blood sugar monitored? If not, this should be something that you discuss with your doctor.
I am surprised he put you on Seroquel for sleep though, there are other meds that work much better for this, such as Klonopin. Is there another reason also for the Seroquel? Are you having psychotic episodes? Visual or auditory hallucinations?
