    Cd burner installation
I have an older Dell PC and an older cd burner that I ould like to install. Can I use the burner in place of my cd-rom drive? Can I use the same connectors that are already there. Also, do I need to install any special software or drivers for this cd burner. Yhe burner is from Samsung model SW-248.

    Hello,

The Burner will also play CDs so the answer is "yes. It serve both purposes. Typically there are no drivers needed and the operating system will just recognize it (depends on how old your operating system is). The CD burner will have the same cables out the back as the CD Rom drive. A ribbon cable and a 4 pin power connector. So you can use with the new drive what you used with the old one. Remember to also plug in the sound cable on your new (old) drive. You will also need burner software to make the copying process relatively easy. Roxio and Nero both make decent packages. If some software came with the burner, that will be fine. However, if you are using Windows XP and the burner is very old, there may be a software compatibility issue. Hope this helps.
