    Celing fan lighting
    I would like to get my fan to work with the chain and the light with the light switch

    If both are controlled seperatly at switch, one wire for light and one wire for fan, Just take the fan wire and connect to hot side.

    If you have only 2 wires from switch to fan location, and it used to be a light They make a Unit that will go in place of switch(transmitter) up to fan canopy(where receiver is placed)
    Now instead of a neutal and 1 controlled item, you have 2.

    If it is 2 wires(Not counting ground) and in conduit, and with power off, Disconnect wire at fan and switch. Pull 1 out pull 2 in. Reconnect

    Usually there is an unswitched hot leg in the box in addition to the switched hot.. . Usually black and red.. . That will do exactly what the OP wants with no additional purchases or wiring.
