    Advanced cancer
My sister was diagnosed with stage I've colon cancer 2 years ago. She has had surgery, 2 rounds of chemotherapy and radiation treatment. She was told recently that there is nothing else the doctors can do other than pain management. The cancer has spread to her brain, her lungs, her liver, vertebrae, and her hip... as of this week, her legs are swollen. Does this suggest organ dysfunction and that she may be close to dying? If yes, how close

When my father died of cancer many years ago, before we put him in the hospital, his legs and feet were swollen. We were told they were swollen because of his heart. There can be other reasons for the limbs to swell, though.

It was a number of months before my father died after that.

None of us can truly predict when someone will die. But, if the cancer has already spread to the liver, then death probably is not too far off.

I am truly sorry to hear about your situation. I have been through the same with my father. My heart and prayers are with you.

The following link may provide some answers to you as far as the swelling is concerned.
