The cost does not have to be very much if you do the repair yourself.
I would get some epoxy and not the five minute kind, and use it according to directions on the label. Some big clamps would be helpful if you do not have time to hold the pieces together while the epoxy sets.
Epoxy only a couple of pieces at a time. Make sure that they fit EXACTLY the way they did originally.
Also, some home restoration places may have toilet tank lids available.
Not the right color? You could paint it to match.
Look in the phone book, newspaper or on the Internet for a handyman in your area.
All of the above are pains in the butt. But, they are possible solutions to the problem.

Most plumbing shops keep a "bone pile" of old tank lids. Call around with the make and capacity, (3.5 or 1.6 gallons) of the lid and see if they don't have a replacement in stock. Good luck, Tom

If you ever tried to glue a piece of China you know how a repair will look. Tom has a great idea about the bone yard. Chances are small but you could try to trace it to the original manufacturer but I think Gary's site is totally worth checking. Thanks Gary, I'm saving your site.

Rootie, this thread is 2 years old. There is no great fix for a broken vitrious china piece so we advise to buy used lids. I'll be back in amoment with a site.
